For example, Armagoddon lets you set precise values for turn time, while WMD only gives you a few options to choose from. This means that it's literally impossible to faithfully recreate some schemes (hysteria, for example) in WMD.
You can invite Steam friends through WMD, but not through Armageddon, at least to my knowledge (I may be wrong on this one). On the other hand, Armageddon lets you host private lobbies (password protected), while WMD doesn't.
As for the server issues, I never had any with Armageddon's main WormNET server.
Not really, Worms 2 gave you more control. No idea why they reverted on that either since Armageddon was originally supposed to be an expansion for Worms 2.
