Worms WMD is IMO inferior to W:A, but it does have a few advantages:
1. The graphics are (arguably) more visually appealing due to it being new
2. You can zoom in and out
3. Built in voice chat (which nobody really uses)
4. Built in ranked mode (which is crap and you will find yourself fighting against the same dozen or so people and getting stomped)
5. new gameplay elements, such as crafting and vehicles amongst others
6. The game is far more newbie-friendly and nobody really adheres to any rules in ANY scheme, even schemes like fort which come from other Worms games and *should* be played according to the rules
So basically IMO I think W:A is the best but WMD is good if you're a newbie / casual for a variety of reasons. Also keep in mind that Worms games are not immensely popular and it seems like most of the players are based in Europe, so your best time of day in terms of finding games is going to be during European afternoon/evening hours...
Considering all of those points I think Armageddon is the way to go, sounds like it's got everything I need. It's a shame it doesn't have a big player base but I'll try and aim for the euro times to find a game.
