Sadly, no. Just Windows/Mac/Linus Steam crossplay, which isn't really 'cross play' IMO but whatever. GOG, PS4, XB1, and Switch are all separate. I am hoping that when a new Worms game is released in the future it has true cross platform capabilities because having the player base divided is trash.

We'd always be open to bringing our players together, where possible.

It's a question of tech, suitability and having enough resources.

It'd be ace if it gets easier as time goes by!

How about simply just releasing a game on just one platform? It is high time for a Worms game specifically made for computers with no thought of consoles in mind. Having all of the players undivided on one platform would be a HUGE draw, not to mention it would be optimized and have day-one features that consoles simply wouldn't have.

Also, the Dev team could devote all of their focus and resources on one version of the game rather than several versions. What has happened with the last several Worms games is that they start off to a lukewarm reception and then inevitably the players get bored because of a lack of options, because of a divided player base, because of weird mechanics that stink of console, etc. I am one of the few old school online Worms players who actually has faith that Team17 can pull off a game that will become the new crown jewel of the series. Pretty much the entire W:A community thinks that Team17 is incompetent. It's just a matter of Team17 doing what is needed to accomplish that goal of making the best Worms game ever. I know that you guys could do it but the game NEEDS to be exclusive to one platform (or have true, universal cross-play) and it also needs to have a lot of customizations and features present that are sadly lacking in WMD, as well as more of everything... more terrain themes, more weapons from past games as well as a few new ones as long as they are playtested, a robust ranking system that includes single and clanner games and different scheme modes. I can give you guys PAGES of suggestions that would make the game objectively better for all.

Many console players play Worms only if it's available on their console.. cross-play is the way to go.

Having separate Steam and GOG versions was stupid, though.

I don't think that cross-play is the way to go because there's a lot of features that could be present in a computer-based Worms game that wouldn't be included in a console version, not to mention the fact that people playing with a keyboard and mouse are going to have a huge advantage against people playing with a controller, especially if they improved the rope and made it more like W:A than it is. Even just having access to quick item select via the fkeys is a HUGE advantage over controller users. Diehard Worms fans who play on console might complain about the game not being released on the platform of their choice but they would still buy the game for Steam, especially if they knew that it was an undivided player base with lots of great design choices that are lacking in WMD.

Cross-play just seems like a nightmare to figure out from a logistics perspective. Each console has different hardware and specs and there would be numerous technical hurdles to overcome in order to make that actually work. On the other hand, they could simply just release the game on Steam only and dedicate their energy and time towards making sure that one release is spot on. I feel that cross-platform would be the suboptimal solution compared to making it a Steam exclusive but it would be better than having a divided player base for sure.

With cross-play we would have to cater to the lowest common denominator, so to speak. I wouldn't want to see a future game lacking features/content/options because it's basically the same build amongst all platforms. I know that Team17 wouldn't release ANY game as a Steam exclusive these days because they want to sell copies of the game on as many platforms as possible and make as much money as possible because they are a business after all and they ultimately don't give a crap about the player base so long as they are selling copies of the game. They don't care that the multiplayer dies out in these newer Worms titles in hardly any time.

It's so funny that W:A was released almost 20 years ago and still is (as far as I can tell) roughly just as active as WMD, or possibly even moreso. xD

So you are assuming console players have a gaming PC or will buy one just to play Worms... Surely Team17 could make a better Worms game if they focused on one platform only.

Remember AceWorm? He played with a controller on PC and you couldn't tell if he was using a controller or a keyboard. I have WMD also on Xbox One and I was able to rope with the controller well enough for schemes like Pro. I just remapped the buttons and put the controller on the table and used it like a keyboard so I didn't need to learn to rope again. I noticed that I was a bit slower with my moves because I couldn't use F keys but it's not a big deal IMO. I know some experienced console players can select a weapon way faster than me. Keyboard and mouse support is coming to consoles at some point anyway. Even now you could buy an adapter and play with your keyboard.

Most modern PCs are more than fast enough to play Worms titles. No need for a special "gaming PC" with huge specs. Consoles are just crappy, specialized computers anyway.
