Painkiller Overdose

Why do people keep defending this game?
This is a really bad FPS, it is a disgrace to the Painkiller name and it's really obvious too after a few levels.

Overdose was cool. What I didn't like about it is the distribution of levels: the earlier levels were pain in the ass, at least for me, especially the Dead Marsh, Riot, while the late levels were ridiculously easy: Haunted Valley, Village of the Damned for example. Another negative thing about this game, that certain tarot cards have quite big demands, like collecting 160 souls out of 162 on Animal Farm. While it doesn't sound that hard, but if a corpse gets outside of the map, then you won't get the monster's soul, which is really bound to happen at certain points. Apart from these minor design issues, Overdose is a really cool Painkiller game. They really created new levels with new monsters and recycled the older monsters in a clever way. I'd say, this game was more difficult in terms of levels than the Painkiller Black Edition as it put you into lots of hard situations, while the original Painkiller was mostly going easy on the player. I mean, the original Painkiller had a lot of easy levels. The only painful ones I can recall were the Military Base, the Train Station (at least for me), the Docks (this was a huge ♥♥♥♥ you to the player). So all in all Overdose was only just more difficult, because each level used a lot of different monsters and certain monsters were really really powerful, like that ambushing tentacle thing on Dead Marsh.
Painkiller Overdose is like Serious Sam 2, Harder, Goofier and hated by most fans... but still a fun game.

No, it really isn't. The original painkiller had open areas and enemy spawn points that made it feel less like a boring coridor shooter. This was a boring coridor shooter.
There are plenty of open areas in Painkiller Overdose, Ragnarok has a lot of them, so does Field Ambulance. Are you sure you're not thinking about Painkiller Redemption?
No, I'm thinking of overdose, the one I bought, played, and had refunded.

Maybe it just opens way up later on, but what I played was tight coridoors, lazy enemy spawn placement, and massive load times for levels that were so much smaller and less detailed than those of painkiller black.
The weapons felt so weak too. Painkiller black has so much impact or satisfaction with each weapon, overdose just felt limp.

That's such a huge insult to serious sam 2.
I don't see a single person complaining about the goofieness or difficulty here.
"and the gameplay is exactly the same. What more could you want? "

This makes me wonder if you even understand what painkiller games are. It's not "the same gameplay" when they don't even give you enough room to run and jump around.

Oh so you never finished the game? That makes sense then. Complaining about being in tight areas fighting enemies is like complaining about the Orphanage level in Painkiller Black... and the Castle level. It does start off having some tight rooms early on but later on the levels open up.

I'm not exactly sure how you can say that the weapons of Overdose are weaker though... maybe you haven't acquired the egg bombs yet... or the nuke gun, those two weapons are devastating, then there's the crossbow which is like the Boltgun but faster and more accurate and can 1 shot most enemies. Shotgun deals a ton of damage too and if you're up against a strong enemy you can petrify them.

If anything Overdose's weapons are a lot stronger than Painkiller Black.

no, it's more like complaining about the first level of painkiller black, which sucked me right in since it lead in with weaker enemies in a decently sized area with interesting design while slowly elevating with tougher enemies and larger areas.

If you are just going to try to dismiss my opinion of the game to defend your own fragile ego, be my guest. I don't care if you like the game and you really shouldn't care if I dislike the game.

Yes, i didn't finish it. Know why I didn't finish it? Because the first 3 hours of the game I forced myself to play (expecting it to get better at some point) was not enjoyable or interesting in the slightest. Sorry if this bugs you, but I see that as a failure on the part of the game. I don't feel obligated to force myself to complete the entire game when I'm not enjoying myself.

If you are trying to tell me that I quit right before the real game started and it actually became fun to play, then that is still a really poorly designed game considering the opening of a game, movie, or book is supposed to draw the audience in and make them want to experience more of that world.

"If anything Overdose's weapons are a lot stronger than Painkiller Black."

I don't care how "powerful" some peice of text says it is or how "powerful" it's supposed to be according to some lore. The weapons did not "feel" powerful to me, and considering this is a video game, that's kind of important.
When I attack enemies in Painkiller Black, it has a feeling of impact and weight. Enemies react in a satisfying way. It makes even the starting weapon (the painkiller) feel powerful since it causes enemies to fly apart in a bloody mess.
Compare that to overkill, where the weapons feel impotent because the enemies just kind of take them with little to no reaction. The starting weapon is pretty much worthless or at the very least feels worthless. I can't think of a single memorable weapon I used in that game and I got far enough to have quite a few. I can hardly even remember what they did.

Oh yes, those later guns sound like they might be fun. Problem is I actually did make it to the shotgun and considering how boring I found that one, I doubt the other will do much for me either. Concept alone doesn't make a weapon cool in a video game, it actually has to "feel" right. I do like the design of a lot of the weapons in overkill but it's wasted on a game where everything feels so cheap, fake, and spongey.

In painkiller black, everything feels heavy, messy, and vicious.

So every painkiller sucks except for black edition?

Who is saying that?
If your only defense is a strawman, it's because you can't find an honest point to defend your position.

Overdose is hardly a "painkiller" game considering how it was made, but that's another story. It was not made by people who understood how painkiller was meant to be played. It's like a series of those mario maker levels where you just go through the entire thing by spin jumping on thwomps. Yes it's cool in small doses, but that's not what the actual game was and it's not really "challenging" just because it's easy to ♥♥♥♥ up.

I never felt good when I acomplished something in overdose because it always just felt like such a slog. When I beat a level in painkiller, it feels great because every level is designed in a way that allows it to build up and then end with something unique or bombastic.

Pretty much, yes. Overdose is Painkiller: Crap Edition. :D

I like both BE and OD and finished both on Trauma. Suck it.

I liked the house of the dead movie, liking things isn't really a "suck it" brag.

The weapons do feel right though, the crossbow is probably one of the most satisfying weapons in the series for one.

I disagree, and it seems most painkiller fans do too. That's fine if it feels right for you, but it feels like ♥♥♥♥ to me.
O.k. i think this is a great game, but to me it is not Painkiller. I love the one-liners and some of the weapons can be better off forgotten. But the main flaw I see is repetition. Locked door small room a butt load of demon's after small room after small room. I do like it a lot but to call it Painkiller is a stretch.

As if original PK was something different.
