You mean beating Slash in the tutorial? I pretty much just ran towards him, made him swing his weapon, dodge out of the way, hit him while he recovers from the swing, and repeat. It takes a bit, but eventually you'll get it!

Super slow safe way would be to bait out attacks till he does the swing into the air, since that takes the longest recovery time you can get a safe hit off him and retreat.

Just... get him into a corner and repeatedly use the fire sword's heavy attack, it makes him unable to do jack squat.

After you die in the main game you can carry completed blocks of xp into the tutorial just like you do with a new run, then when the real fight with Slash starts upgrade yourself for more health, makes things a little bit easier.
