They brought it upon themselves. Judging by the state the game was released in I seriously doubt they had any plans to develop it further. The whole thing had "cash grab" stamped upon its forehead, as is the case with every...single...lazy...port.
If Chilled Mouse had any intentions of infusing some longevity into this game they completely dropped the ball. Unfortunate, yes, because if they played their cards right they could have had a serious cult title that may have generated income for years, inciting further development. Instead they sold crap to the masses and we might see a couple bug fixes or the occassional DLC that nobody will buy.
I love WHQ. The Boardgame is in a cupboard behind me, with expansions and extra characters, and this PC version lets me play the game without clearing off the table and setting the board parts up.
I'd happily buy more characters if they release any (have the Deluxe already).
Multiplayer would be nice, I'd like to see the dice rolling as an option and a few other tweaks, but as it stands it works well.
Bring on more boardgames! Also: Necromunda? GorkaMorka? I'm waiting... ;)
so a button in game that gives you gold for REAL money is a cash grab? a button.. you didnt need to press.. is a cash grab? a game that WAS NOT DESIGNED AROUND THE NEED FOR THAT GOLD BUTTON is a cash grab? HOW. IF THE GAME HAD BEEN MADE WITH THE IDEA THAT YOU CAN NOT PROGRESS WITHOUT GOLD THEN YES IT WOULD BE A CASH GRAB BUT JUST BECAUSE A GAME HAS A BUTTON YOU CAN PRESS DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE TO PRESS IT NOR DOES IT MEAN THE DEVS DESIGNED THE GAME AROUND THE NEED FOR THAT BUTTON TO BE PRESSED TO PROGRESS AKA PAYWALL.
Continue to update and get me that upgrade button ;)
Mainly based on the fact that this game peaked at around page 10 of the best sellers list on Steam.
Not 10th place, PAGE 10.
For reference, Double Dragon Trilogy (a 25 year old arcade experience that can be had for free very easily) sat comfortably on page 2 after it was released. It sold for $6.
Edit note: spelling mistakes
On topic:
Only multiplayer could give this type of game longevity. It's the type of game you'd invite a friend to have a quick game of whenever the mood hits, but not really something you'd sit down and play the hell out of whenever new content comes out.
I've played a lot of mobile games that were designed to encourage MTs, this is definitely not one of them.
I have the complete opposite opinion of the game in regards to SP vs MP. I've played WQ a lot, probably nearing a dozen playthroughs. I know from the IOS boards and the awards given out, others shared this view. On the other hand, I just don't see how MP would work. It would take so long to get through a single dungeon that I can't see it being remotely enjoyable.
Are you thinking all that would be in one DLC pack? That would be more like a mini expansion like how Age of Wonders 3 does it for around $12. They do it right.
This company would charge $3 to $5 for each individual thing you just mentioned and not blink an eye. But that's how Game's Workshop has always been so it must be making them money.
