There are no OP characters in Quest. Everyone can get ganked. The mages moreso due to their power relying on good Winds of Magic rolls. Two event rolls close to eachother can render a mage near useless in a fight. It is even worse if he is your primary healer.
But it is all potentiallity. If he flubs the power roll and triggers an event, not only are you probably getting enemies you have to deal with, but he has not power to use and has to rely on his reserves. Even with a great base reserve of 9, that will only allow for a single Sear Wounds which is generally what you want to save the power for.
Back to back flubbing of the power roll really stuffs him up. Even if you have 1-2 Orbs of Power to utilise.
Basically when he is on fire he really shines, but when he fizzles out he is just another meatbag with a sword.
At least the Witch Hunter can still be pretty nasty in melee when his Willpower is gone. Especially if geared right.
But yeah wait until later in the game. I still haven't gotten anyone past level 5 yet as it always ganks me with multiple Vamps, or a Vicious River Troll with a ton of mooks. That is just Quest though. Just surviving is the real victory.
Grey wizard because of blade of night ( add + attack ( based on the base attack of the target character) for 4 wind of magic and it can be stack).
Trollslayer because of whirlwind ( auto hit ( magic rolls) everyone around him for the price of 1 attack , you got 3 attack you can do it 3 time) .
Witch hunter who got range + close combat + some magic dps spell ( all of that did twice more dmg at undead xD)
Shadow warrior who can shoot with bow , move , hit with the sword ( and got a skill who make you reroll if you miss)
Ironbreaker who get double critical dmg + deathsong who make you ignore fatal wounds then roll a dice to see if the next attack kill you or you ignore it (until you get healed or downed).
Bright wizard is a very good dmg character , but he need others to make him work , he got a bad health pool + bad toughness. When you start to face some monster who get 150+hp you are happy to get a tank to pinned him :p.
Then as said Atma , 2/3 bad random event + some miss and you are surround by 10 vampire who will just rape you and send you back to town no matter what you do ^^ .
However the absolute worst so far for me has been the Ogre - single strong attack that seems to miss most of the time, or a weak cleave attack that doesn't kill anything. Also surprisingly squishy considering it's an ogre.
The Witch hunter is amazing against undead - not sure if you'd take him along for anything else though.
Maybe this will change as they level up. Not sure what aspects of levelling is random ie attributes, new abilities etc
One thing that certainly does seem OP to me are the legendary weapons that you get with the Deluxe Edition - almost feels like cheating if you use these on the early levels. Wish you could sell them for gold,
He is what people would call a true hybrid, that only excell one surpass powerhitters like marauders and trollslayers one time in the dungeon. against anybody.
But then he is back to being beter then average.
The Ogre is the problem he really need more then 1 attack :( (so trying to see if counter attack item helps him or not) none of his items have + melee attacks either.
The barbarian is so strong cause he got tons of +melee attack items. and even some +ranged attack items. that is why he is so flexible later on.
Random so far confirmed is Skills and HP (always seem to get the same stats increase on levelup those never seem to change)
So the skill part randomises is the pain in having a godly character or a wuzz.
A troll slayer might never get whirlwind or get it at level 2.
Same as grey wizard might never get the good spells, but instead all junk :(
The Waywatcher is an overlooked jem though. Being able to throw out 4 Ranged attacks (due to gear) at BS5 a turn is great for crowd control. And she can have 2 Melee attacks to boot. And gets a few passives that make her hard to hit. Would have been my first level 6, but the dungeon decided that it had enough of me and threw encounter after encounter after encounter. With nasties like River Trolls and Orc Big Bosses.
TPK again. Time to start all over. To give an idea of just how much crap it threw at me, I went into the dungeon with like $1K gold. When I was back in town after I had $6K. Would have loved to see the XP from that. Probably would have been halfway to Level 7 if she survived.
So basically my party is already dead :( , bosses and rivers trolls are getting more and more common later on in reikland and special quest missions.
Even in Averland (but atleast not in such a ridiculous rate as reikland)
Anyway Powerstorage is also Random (so makes rerolling wizards a pain)
Cause you have to balance out SPELLS/Skills HP and Powerstorage.
I'm getting someone to Level 6 on hardcore no matter what. Just need to find the right party balance.
How have people found the Shadow Warrior? I am going to try him out next with a Witch Hunter, Warrior Priest, and probably either a Bright Mage or another Marauder.
how i used him is : use range for make a road to the enemy ranks for the tank , using my others character and at the end using him where it's needed.
Maybe I'll actually get Vanquish for the Warrior Priest again.
