What about the Ogre?
Hi there guys.
I played this game quite a lot and i wonder, what the ogre is worth for. He is a bully and can take some damage, yes, but the dwarf can too. While the ogre just has 1 single attack, which he misses most time, and if he hits, it does no overwhelming damage at all. Dwarfs and barbarian do nearly the same damage and have far more attacks. So, what's the point about our big one? And finally, its very hard to bring him levels up, cause he need kills therefore, what is nearly impossible. Anyone got an idea?

I just played a game using the Ogre im place of the Dwarf just to have a go. He outkilled the Barbarian. Yes he only has one attack at least in the beginning but he can take down a Boss Mob on his own in one hit with the added damage that his strength gives.

In addition to what Darinthal wrote.... it is great at the tank role. Put in the middle of as many enemies as you can to pin them. Let it take the damage so your damage dealers and healers can keep the fight going.

It also gets some great abilities such as spider poison immunity and the ability to attack adjacent enemies.... so its attack can hit more than one enemy at a time. A fully upgraded ogre is pretty powerful in the tank role but you have to give up the attacks of another hero. Personally though I found it to be great with the marauder, a healing wizard and the waywatcher.

The only thing I don't like about the Ogre well one of the only things I don't like are that Chilled Mouse didn't include much of the Original Ogre attributes of the board game. They get a few other things they can do along with some detrimental attributes too.

I agree with tanking the ogre, once you got his gear and masterwork club, give him the halfling lucky acorn to significantly increase his hit rate and he is a beast, i find taking the shadow elf and using misdirect so bad guys focus the ogre works awesomely

he sucks

Theres nothing good about the Ogre tbh. I have the tanking gear with the acorn and past level 5 its just not enough damage out because of the 1 attack. Wild swing hits for about 15 at this point, which is paltry compared to most mobs having over 100 hps.

Nothing good? It's a great tank character, single attack hits pretty hard so can get a decent damage output on tough characters once you boost its hit chance. The ogre also gets some decent tanking gear, is immune to spider poison, and gets an attack that hits three enemies and that attack seems to only miss if an enemy has a special item. Weaken the three enemies that the ogre can hit with that attack and mop up all three with one swing. It also gets some once per dungeon abilities that are pretty strong, one makes it immune to all damage for a round, another gives a hefty offensive boost. I've got the ogre teamed up with the grey wizard, ironbreaker, and witch hunter. The ogre and the ironbreaker tank really well, the wizard heals and both the wizard and WH do damage at range. The ogre mops up whatever the ironbreaker damages down to about 15-20 health with the sweeping attack.

I think almost all of the characters can be good if you focus on what they do well. There's only one that I don't like, and it's that odd mage with the protection or offensive magic. Can be strong, I just don't enjoy playing that one.

Yep all characters are good in my view. The High Elf mage, is the one you dont like. I understand I didnot like him either at first but....he has high evasion, a ward save if that fails and can heal the entire party in defensive mode. Not Plus his offense dont suck. and he hits fairly consistently with a legendary Elf Sword. Not trying to convince you to like him, just going through what I discovered about him.

Oh, it's not at all that I think the elf isn't good, I just don't enjoy that particular character. i think most of us that enjoy the game will have some preferences. Not really a fan of the priest, either.

If you get the hammer of sigmar and a legendary ring of strength he can 1 shot orc war bosses. Plus "when" his abilities work, depending on donations in town, he can save your bacon when the winds of magic turn against you. But like you said everyone has their preferences. My least favorite is the ironbreaker. While tanky he misses a lot, with the current random abilities in this play through.

The Ironbreaker I'm using rarely misses against most enemies. There are some that seem to be harder to hit but he's got 4 melee attacks right now so a miss here and there isn't that bad. He's built to tank, any damage output beyond one hit per round is a bonus. Usually he softens 'em up in melee with assistance from the grey wizard and the witch hunter if needed, then the ogre wipes 'em out. :claugh:

Anyway got just 3 characters left to max out in perma-death. WHQ2 is a different animal. Not as fun but I dont hate it and play it from time to time. WHQ3 is some sort of simplified abomination of a game. At least thats what it looks like.
mooreshawnm Sep 7, 2021 @ 7:02am
There's a 3?
Macdallan Sep 7, 2021 @ 3:25pm
I have the 2nd one as well and agree it's not as good as the first. I saw 3 a while back, avoided. it. How can a relatively simple game get so much worse?
