There goes my childhood :(

way better than Call of Duty

TL;DR: If you're looking for a game that's similar to the older Delta Force games, look elsewhere. This game had almost everything that made Delta Force what it was stripped out of it.

I grew up with the Delta Force games, more specifically Delta Force 2 and Delta Force: Land Warrior. I played those games very often, and I liked the semi-realistic fighting involved. You had to choose your loadout and your playstyle. Did you go with a silenced small weapon and sneak into the objective, or did you grab a sniper rifle and pick off targets before moving in? Combined with this and the fact that you only could take a few shots before you died (no checkpoints here), Delta Force was a beast of its own, and it took a completely different approach than the Quake-like FPSs so prevalent in those days. Delta Force: Xtreme, however, took this formula and turned it on its head.

Here are some of my grievances:

• To start out with, you are limited to only choosing your primary and secondary weapons, and you have a very limited selection. Do you want to be a sniper? Here, have a selection of ONE sniper rifle. The extensive customization of your loadout is completely absent from Xtreme.
  
  
• Drivable vehicles are in the game now, which seems like a nice idea. However, the controls are extremely floaty, making the vehicles very difficult to control.
  
  
• The entire experience does not feel realistic at all. You can take multiple shots before dying, and you can pick up ammo packs and health in buildings. If you die, you respawn where you started with your mission progress saved, making you trek all the way back to your objective. This is especially egregious when you die and you're meant to use a vehicle to get to your objective. The game doesn't respawn a vehicle for you to drive, making you go in on foot. I wouldn't mind the respawn mechanic if it was actually complete.
  
  
• This is a small thing, but it still irks me. In older Delta Force games, I had a habit of keeping the objectives list open, as it was small and it neatly fit into the corner. The objective list in Xtreme is needlessly gigantic, and leaving it open obstructs your vision.
  
  
• The price for a title of this quality is extremely high. I would expect to pay a maximum of $10 for this, especially considering how old it is. It is twice that price. There are more recent, higher quality games for the same price.

To conclude, this game should only be bought if you really want to own all of the Delta Force games, and only if it is heavily discounted. Look elsewhere for your military FPS needs.

It's a reload of the original but it does come with a few downers. Getting extra health and ammo is easy just look for the red and blue boxes on your gps or map. There are extra missions and this one is challenging but not too challenging or you might have to work to hard to play the game lol! It does need save points and a few more health power ups since bad guys come from out of nowhere and wax you. You can't assume you've cleared a part of the map or territory or you'll get waxed. For anyone into FPS I very highly recommend this one!!!! Besides needing save points it could also use a few more weapons. There is a mp5sd3 but no mission truly allows it.

Content-wise, the game, for what it is, is under 3 hours long, making for a perfect amount of playtime to get through it and never look back. It's a hilarious one-time experience gameplay-wise that everyone should jump into from time to time, as playing something like this adds so much value to games I thought were even worse until I played this.

Xtreme presents a mixed bag with its gameplay, blending elements from its predecessors in a way that, at the same time, disappoints and impresses. While initially appearing to recycle mechanics from earlier installments, the game introduces a different approach that, unfortunately, falls short in comparison but offers just enough to make it enjoyable. Despite some fun missions, the overall gameplay fails to maximize its potential. The gameplay experience feels incomplete, lacking polish and appearing dated even for its release period. Numerous glitches and issues take away from the overall pleasure, inevitably leading to comparisons with superior titles like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, and Call of Duty 2. Delta Force: Xtreme struggles to deliver a stable first-person-shooter experience, falling short of its competition in various aspects, and yet, what baffles me is that it feels enjoyable.

One of the highlights is the satisfaction derived from sniping. Performing sniper kills from a distance offers a fun element amid the game's shortcomings with other gameplay mechanics. However, the presence of weapons without proper ADS aiming does bring back the feel of the original Delta Force. The frustration intensifies with vehicles, as killing the driver invokes an unexpected explosion. Despite these setbacks, the respawn system mitigates the frustration, allowing players to continue missions without restarting and experiencing some hilarious moments. The AI's lackluster implementation further dulls the experience, enabling players to breeze through missions in a RAMBO-style approach, eliminating enemies with minimal challenge, which makes the game more enjoyable gameplay-wise than I'm willing to admit. Despite these shortcomings, the shooting mechanics provide fun in an otherwise underwhelming gameplay experience.

Visuals and audio fall especially short in this one, and while the technological limitations of its time might justify a lack of complex details in graphics and sound effects, it's surprising that Delta Force: Xtreme feels so inferior alongside other games that include significantly superior visuals and audio. The visuals of the game feel incomplete, leaving a sense of dissatisfaction. The gun sounds lack the realism in coexisting titles at the time, contributing to an overall underwhelming experience. When many superior games from the same period exist, it begs the question of what the developers had to deal with to get this out in such a state technologically.

Regrettably, the disappointments don't end there. The animation work for gameplay is notably incomplete and plagued by glitches, with even the simplest door entrances resulting in unintentional collisions. Movement-related issues add to the frustration, with inaccurate controls causing the character to make sporadic micro-movements that disrupt aiming. While static shooting works relatively well, any attempts at fluid movement are interrupted by jerky and uneven mouse responsiveness. It's disappointing that such an integral part of the game leaves much to be desired, reflecting an unfinished, rushed, and unpolished game.

The single-player missions are solely driven by objectives, providing players with short and not compelling or enjoyable gameplay experiences as they progress through various locations in each level. However, the game falls short in so many areas it's remarkable. Most importantly, the fun isn't there, with forgettable missions across three campaigns. The concept of such a game has the potential to become one of the most enjoyable first-person experiences, yet it fails to capitalize on its merit. Given its status as an older title, the multiplayer servers are offline. Once you complete the game, the uninstall button calls your name immediately, asking you to press it and never see the game again. I'd consider anyone re-playing such a game a complete madman. Maybe, in 10-20 years, I'd return to remind myself what a failure of a game this is. While it's possible to revisit completed missions, the overall appeal wanes rapidly, leading to a sense of closure after the initial playthrough.

Unfortunately, the game caps at 58 FPS, and despite my attempts, I couldn't find a way to unlock it. Additionally, there are noticeable frame drops during explosion sequences, which is unexpected, given the capabilities of modern hardware. On a positive note, I didn't encounter crashes or stability issues. While the FPS limitation may not be a complete deal-breaker, it would be more satisfying to maximize the high refresh rate of my monitor, regardless of the game's age. Also, no matter what, the game doesn't run in 16:9 wide-screen resolutions for me.

The only thing that saves Delta Force: Xtreme from a negative review is the short duration of the playthrough, enjoyable shooting mechanics, and its hilarious moments during gameplay. I highly recommend this game to any first-person shooter fan with an open heart to try it and experience it for themselves. In just a short few hours, you'll experience everything a first-person shooter game should and shouldn't be.

The original Delta Force was cutting edge at the time and while Xtreme is a bit of a mission pack, it’s cheap and offers excellent offline and online gaming.

This is the game of my childhood and it still makes me happy after 15 years. I'm happy I can play it with my RTX 4090 now. It reminds of how fast we grow and how some little things can so valuable. It's not about flex or money, it's about making core memories. My kids will other games and it will become a part of their journey

The Delta Force Series games are wonderfully done and well laid out. With each game there are a bunch of missions to complete and things to blow up. The graphics in these games are old school. The shooting in the games can get frustrating at times because you might get headshot from a AI that you can't see. Just take each level slow and steady and for the most part you can kill enemies really far away since there is no bullet drop. The missions can also get frustrating since if you fail something in the mission you might be put right back at the beginning of the level and might rage quit because it was hard to get to a certain point. Just remember quick save and save alot while playing to avoid frustration. The online portion of these games are still alive, but you might have to go looking in some of these Delta Force games. Ive really enjoyed playing these classics from beginning to end and I know you will too if you are a army buff and enjoy a good old fashion First Person Shooter.

Delta Force: Xtreme is the 7th game of the series and builds off of the Black Hawk Down engine and modernizes the 3D engine. There are only 20 single player missions, all which are remakes from the original Delta Force 1. The original game had 5 campaigns and 40 missions but they only chose to remake 3 campaigns here. Each mission has been tweaked a bit from the original which was a nice twist, for example in some missions you will be riding to the objective on a motorbike or will be dropping in from parachute. Also added are more helicopters, armored transports and even tanks to combat you - luckily this time there are ample health and ammo pick-ups in certain spots and you will respawn at the last checkpoint when you die which is a good thing because in the past you would have to replay the entire level. This new respawn mechanic makes sense with the increased amount of baddies and the new combat vehicles that are added into the missions. It only took me a couple of hours to beat the 20 missions since they were all very familiar from the original game. If you want more Delta Force and want to see some of the original missions remade in a new 3D engine then you will not be disappointed with this game.

This game, and DFX2, no longer works as far as multiplayer or co-op. Novalogic kind of doesn't exist anymore and they're no longer running master servers for this game. So you can't connect to play with anyone. So, although single player "may" work, the multiplayer and co-op modes, which were the most fun, no longer function.

Back in the day, this game was very entertaining to play with friends. Nothing funnier than sniping your bud out of a chopper's cockpit. But alas, those days are gone.

Don't buy this game. It just doesn't work. It's too bad. Was great fun. But it's just broken now. And don't pay the full price Steam is trying to sell it for... This is BROKEN!!! Should be free or close to free. This is definitely a bargain bin game. Not a $20 buy. Don't buy this guys.
