Any way to use old key of this game and activate on steam?

I still have my boxed retail version of this game (probably pre-steam era) with the key on the back of the cd sleeve. Is there any way to still get this associated through steam? I'm assuming no, but wanted to ask anyway... maybe send an email to valve? Call? Just curious if its possible.

My boxed retail version did'nt work, i downloaded steam and i go into player settings and disable VON before every session, works fine.
