Delta Force: Xtreme 2

Delta Force: Xtreme 2

Why does this run so bad?
I'm on a AMD RX 7900 and an equally good CPU and the game runs absolutely atrocious in single player. It seems looking in directions that have lots of things loaded in such as compounds and bases kills the framerate. On maximum performance its somewhat playable, as the lowest it typically goes is like 40 FPS, but on maximum detail its unplayable and can go as low as 15 FPS. Somethings gotta be wrong here. I can run all new games fine on ultra. I don't know if some setting is wrong or if its a limitation of the engine or what.

It is best that you leave the default settings that the game recommends. If you increase some graphic settings, they could affect the fps. Screen resolution is also another factor. The higher you set it, the more likely the game will be at low fps.
I have a GT 320 graphics card that is very low-end and I have no fps problems, thanks to the fact that I followed the graphic settings recommended by the game itself.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll delete my config file and try running on the default.

Tried it, didn't work. Checked my GPU and CPU utilization in game at the heaviest dips, never goes over 20% utilization on either

Oh. I'm sorry my solution didn't work for you.

It's no problem. Not you're fault. You have nothing to be sorry for.

I did find out that its apparently the fan used EXE you have to use to run single player has massively degraded performance. I also found out that the particle setting is a HUGE performance killer and extreme 2 specifically doesn't let you turn it to lowest in the settings even if you run at "maximum performance mode". Turning this setting to lowest in Black Hawk Down and Extreme 1 MOSTLY fixed my performance problems.

You can directly edit the game.cfg file for particle density...and then perhaps set the file to read-only afterwards...

// DISPLAY gamma = 1.0 terrain_polydetail = 2 terrain_texdetail = 3 object_polydetail = 2 object_texdetail = 0 display_16x9 = 1 water_quality = 2 shadow_quality = 3 particle_density = 0 antialias_mode = 0 texfilter_level = 0 fbeffects_level = 3 shader_usage_level = 2 texcompression_level = 1 lock_framerate = 0 force_vsync = 0 reduce_mouselag = 1 enable_keyboardtips = 1 enable_gameplaytips = 1
