Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure

Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure

Flickering video
I bought safecracker two days ago. Been trying to play it ever since, and don't really get past the menu. Reason: my video flickers. The effect is kind of hard to describe, but here goes.

The mouse cursor flicks in and out. When I go to a new window in the menu (like options) the menu flickers, and the 'lighted boxes' for the mouse to click on flick on/off/on/off.... So go back to main. And it just gets worse the more I try to do anything. By the time I exit, I can barely see the 'leave game' menu box, the flickering is that bad.

Strangely enough? The flickering is only on the menu pieces. The static stuff, the background to the menu, doesn't flicker.

Its better (for relative values of better) if I play the game offline, but it still doesn't go away. It starts about the same spot too -- at the puzzle piece during loading.

Does anyone have any clues on how I can fix this so I can actually *play* this game? Please??

I have been playing on a computer with windoows 7 and it worked great. but I just played it on a computer with Vista and i had to stop before I went into eleptic shock it flickers when I move and like described above
my computer is windows 7 64bit ultimate. quad core. nvidea graphics, 1080p monitor, directx 9 to 11 onboard. 1TB hdd. windows experience scores are 7.1 and 7.2, except for my hdd which is 5.9.

So yeah. Not quite sure why it isn't working optimally. Works kinda better on 'slow' camera -- buts its still jerky... or maybe a better way to put is like anti-aliasing isn't a feature and I'm seeing every frame when i move the camera. :)
quess well have to complain somewhere else steam got there money there done with us
I had the same problem with flickering on Windows 7. A changed setting in the game's ini-file seems to have solved the problem for me. This will make it run in window mode rather than full screen.

Try this:
In the game's folder (SteamApps\common\Safecracker 2) there's two ini-files:
config.ini and STEAM_config.ini
Open these files and change the value of "bFullScreen" to 0.

That window mode workaround from cK did fix the flickering for me as well, but I would rather not play in window mode. I tried messing around with the other settings in those .ini's, but nothing worked. I also tried every setting in the NVIDIA control panel; that didn't work either.
Works! No more flicker.

Of course, mouse does not appear outside window, so cannot resize (yet), but i can work with (around) that. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Changing the config also worked for getting rid of a black screen. Thanks cK! If yall dont like windowed mode there is a great free program called shiftwindow that will make it fullscreen borderless windowed mode
ive tried out fullscreen with shiftwindow but its not possible. You can change the position of the window but not the scale. Now i have to play the game in window mode because i got the fullscreen flickering problem too.

and i realy want to know why there is no option to change resolution. The window size is 1041x807 and it feels like playing on a tablet...
cK 's solution worked for me. Thanks

For me too, but I want fullscreen, damn.
Had the same issue, cK's fix worked, thanks ck.
Tnx cK! Fix works great here too :)
Unfortunately the fix doesn't work for me on my Windows 7 laptop. The issues I'm having are:

* The intro video flickers and freezes for a few seconds at a time. Playing in windowed mode fixed the flickering but not the freezing.
* Some menu items are missing text. I mostly see this on the Save, Load, and Exit confirmation windows.
* The game lags; it takes about a half second after I move the mouse for the game to react. Playing in windowed mode improves this.
* When I pull up the inventory and try to click on an object to look at it, moving the mouse at all causes the whole inventory to flicker and disappear. I hope that I don't have to flip over the photograph that I found or anything like that, because as it stands I can't.
* Moving the mouse around in windowed mode sometimes triggers some of the Windows 7 UI elements. For example, I keep hovering over the "Show Desktop" button in the lower right of the screen and causing the game window to disappear, even though the game supposedly has the mouse focus.

I like the puzzles that I've seen so far and I want to keep playing this game, but currently it is barely playable. Good thing that I only spent $1.24 on it.

setting the .exe to window 7 compatability mode fixed it for me on windows 8
Tossing my name in here too. Windows 7 64-bit w/ Nvidia card had the flickering issue, but CK's suggestion has me playing fine in Windowed mode. A helpful short-term fix.
