Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure

Safecracker: The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure

This is NOT the ORIGINAL VERSION of SAFE CRACKER!
On my earlier post, dated April 12, I had mentioned that there had been an earlier release with an entirely different plot, one which had the player essentially auditioning for a Head Security position with a company that specializes in creating novelty safes for its customers (Crabbe & Sons). I would like for Steam to talk to Dreamcatcher for the express idea of bringing that earlier submission for everyone to be able to play!

FYI: I DO own one copy of that earlier version of SAFE CRACKER on disk that I had bought several years ago when it was available in stores.

There are likely more than one game with the same title. The game being sold by Steam is correct; it's the Safecracker game made by Kheops Studios (I bought it in 1998 from BigFish Games).

I recall another Safecracker too, but not the same one you're thinking of. This one had no plot (it was just combination dials to be turned within a time-limit without triggering alarms - made I think for the Commodore Amiga). So yeah, there are likely a few of them.

The Commodore Amjga! That one goes back to the 1980's! Well, thanks for the information, and for setting me straight on this matter; however, it still would be a nice gesture to have the version that has the protagonist auditioning for the position at Crabbe & Sons available for play on Steam.

I remember this! My sister used to play this all the time when I was younger - I actually bought an adventure compilation pack with Safecracker (sadly not the version I remembered as a kid, but the newer one), Aura 2 and some other game, thinking it was the older version. I remember it being pretty scary (especially the basement, no spoilers though ;) . Great game!

I remember this too. Had bought the Humble Weekly Bundle cause of the name. But it's another game. The one with Crabbe & Sons was great..but only playable to Windows ME. For playing I needed to jail it into a VM.

I liked this first one more. Had played through Safecrackers 2 in one day although some puzzles were really strange.

Yes, there is a Safecracker game made by Daydream in 1997, and this game is a "spiritual sucessor", though it was barely mentioned at the time because not many people played that one. I actually love the 1997 one, and consider this a good effort.

That original 1997 one is nearly impossible to run on modern computers - it depended on old Quicktime technology - and the only way to play it properly is with a virtual machine.

Of course this is not the original version. This is the "The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure". It's basically Safecracker 2. The first one was released in 1997, while this one is from 2006.

Hey! I just found a store a few hours from my place that sells the original Safecracker for almost nothing, still unopened with the seal. It's the size of a CD-case with a flip-cover and I bought three copies, I'm not that tech-savvy but I could try and upload the game (if anyone wants to try and get it working with an emulator) or I could sell them if anyone's interested :) Not looking to make money on it btw, I just love this game and I was thinking others might want the original as well :)

the original is a bit difficult to install/play nowadays though. had to use a virtual machine running win 98

I need help with something, I figured I'd have a better chance of getting an answer here rather than making my own thread. I started the game, completed the first puzzle and got an item called "Resistor" and a piece of paper with a number on it. Can you tell me how I use items in my inventory(I found out you open your inventory by right clicking and you click the item to select it). I swear I have had that item on everything in every room and right clicked and clicked to try and use it on everything so I'm already stumped

you need the number on the keypad... if that helps in any way...
