I believe it's just a meme. People used to say AWESOME SAUCE in the day to mean AWESOME. People were dorks.

I noticed that the developers love to throw easter eggs out there. For example, in Papa's Freezeria Deluxe, one of the mini-games is a direct NOD/easter egg of the original Nintendo DUCK HUNT game.
