different voice acting?
I just read that the voice acting is completely different in these games.... without the option to use the original, either. That's nuts. Most people probably buy this for nostalgic purposes... For me, not hearing that iconic "Alexxxx! Oh, Alex!" from nall (in nall's original voice) would have prompted a refund request, so I'm glad some people are pointing it out in the reviews, but I didn't see it mentioned here in the forums at first glance.

Because everyone knew about it a year ago.
It's due to licensing.
It's due to licensing and scheduling conflicts. John Truitt did offer to come back to do Ghaleon again, but his schedule is hogged by another project. The old PS1 voice actor for Alex is busy with his music career, too.

I don't believe it was a scheduling issue FWIW. And it's not like Ghaleon has hours and hours of audio...

Voice acting takes more time than you think.
I think the voices are all fine.

Yeah, if it's any consolation, I have found the voice acting pretty good so far. It doesn't have the 90's nostalgia value, but it's still quite well done.
The new voices are kinda flat if you're used to the originals. Part of it is the actual audio quality itself rather than the actors. The best of them so far being Leo and Zophar. Whoever did Zophar did an amazing job and is the only one on par if not better than the original.

Not overly impressed with the voice over work. Not blaming the voice actors, but it feels like it was tacked on after the fact with whoever they could get on short notice.

I'm talking original SegaCD (Working Designs/US release). I don't really remember the PS1 VA.

Video games have their own history.
I've been holding controllers since I was two years old, and yet throughout my life, I've missed a lot of important games, at least on a historical level.
It's really important in short, to recover iconic titles like this one, that everyone talks about, but I instead, had missed the experience.

You only "missed" the original releases. There is a plethora of ways to play the original games, starting with the original re-work of the SegaCD version that was released on PS1. An older, classic title doesn't require a steam release in order to be experienced.

My pc has a terabyte of memory, a good portion of which is permanently occupied by a huge collection of emulators.
But I continue to support the industry regardless.
