No idea what you were thinking. In particular, the loss of John Truitt as Galleon is simply *insane.* That is often cited as one of the best early VA performances in gaming - the guy set the gold standard for villains at a time when the majority of video game voice actors were just low level employees conscripted for the task.

Hugely disappointed.

I made an entire post about this myself. From the very beginning, but especially after listening to the "Story trailer" and hearing how they butchered both him, Zophar, and a few others.

Fortunately everyone has told me the JP cast is still in tact and, for whatever reason, they didn't recast THAT entire cast so... yeah

GungHo could have done more to ensure that we would have had the WD dub in the game too. I think the new dub is fine, but I think Truitt is the superior performance. Being able to hear both variations at player discretion would have been ideal.

the dude that is effectively WD wanted basically what would have been the whole of the profits of this remaster for the use of the WD english dub audio files

he's legendarally a jerk.. along the lines of harmony gold and macross


y'all need to think about it. if redubbing it is cheaper than just using the existing WD audio. what was he asking for that audio?

Based on some comments on this board it seems likely that there will be an original voice mod at some point. For people who grew up playing this new voices really sucks, but it is totally understandable why they did it. For new players I hope the new voice cast maintains the quality of the originals.

been alright so far.. and they actually got someone with a naturally high and pleasant voice for Nall. instead of pitch shifting and making it ear bleedingly shrill

I've played all American releases of Lunar, and I think the new voices are just fine.

As for not using or even approaching Vic about using the original VA tapes this is one case in which Vic's reputation probably made even approaching him as a complete non-starter.

For just using the original english VA's, Vic would have probably demanded 70% of total sales, only knowing he couldn't squeeze any more blood out of the stone because of Steam's 30% cut. With, of course, the actual original voice actors not getting a cent.

Basically the guy that owns the rights to the voices, claims he was willing to work with them, but what he wanted was royalties on every sale that would have made it either not worth selling the game or far more expensive then people were willing to pay

While is sucks that there's no John Truitt voice, they got possibly the best replacement they could with Keith Silverstein. Keith is an amazing voice actor and while it's different than John's performance, it's by no means a bad one.

I just cleared SS, and Keith Silverstein did a pretty damn good job actually. I'm sure I'll get flamed for "how dare you be fine with different voice/English translation" or whatever, but didn't bother me in the slightest. John Truitt hasn't really done much, and who knows if he was even interested. I tried looking it up, but I didn't find anything about if he even wanted to reprise it provided he could due to WD hi-jinks.

I do agree with some that Luna was a little weaker, but oh well. It's not like the entire game is voiced anyway.

Late edit: now that I'm in EB, I like the new Lucia MUCH better than the OG. I always felt like I was hitting on a 10-year-old with that voice. The new actress actually sounds like a woman.
