Yes, I'm old enough to come from that time.
Fortunately, if you already own the originals on PS1 and have no interest in any of the improvements, then you can still play them on Steam anyway!

Anyway, if you wanted to buy the originals they're quite steep in price. 25$ each, 50$ total seems fine, especially if you want them physical. It'll eventually go down in price, probably, like the FF collection.
Go ahead and emulate it, though, I guess. Make sure you get the un-working designs patches though to get rid of the goofy ass writing
