REVIEWS are out
Today the review embargo for the Lunar Remastered Collection ended so we got a bunch of reviews.
I just list a few of them:

Nintendo Life : 7/10
CG Magazine : 9/10
Worth Playing: 8/10
Shacknews: 8/10
Niche Gamer: 10/10
Nintendo World: 7.5/10
Gamepressure: 7/10
Game Hype UK: 85/100
Final Weapon: 3/5
Game Lodge: 90/100

Mostly smaller sites so far.
Currently at 82% average on Open Critic with 16 reviews.
Consensus seems to be its basically just what you expect, pretty much 1:1 ports of the PS1 versions of Lunar 1+2 with a widescreen option and some filters.
Thats pretty much it.

Sounds fine to me.
Consensus seems to be wrong then. They changed the voice acting and the localization is different.

Anyhow, what I'm more curious about is potential changes made to cater to "the modern audience". If there's none of that I'll buy a version of this game (probably Switch or something, but I'd wait till Switch 2 to see if it's possible to play on that), but if there is I'll skip it and stick to the originals.

I don't mind a newer more accurate localization if it's true to the Japanese version, but I don't want any changes that reflect modern political views.

Its 99% the same old Working Designs translation. They removed some of the most dated references and political jokes but the rest is the exact same " ha ha look how funny we are" Working Designs stuff.
Like this: https://prnt.sc/InB8EPmookjD
Also barely any review mentions the voices at all.

Removing Bill Clinton joke = literally unplayable

Sounds like pretty much the same deal as the Suikoden remasters, then: Basically just bringing the games to modern platforms with just a small amount of polish; the games themselves largely hold up and are great hidden gems, but they didn't add all that much in the way of modern QOL improvements, which might chafe a little for newcomers. In other words, exactly what most of us probably expected and pretty much hoped for.

Kind of a pity about the new dub, but I respect that while the voices were good for the 90s, they were probably the part that held up worst and warranted an update. Hopefully the new one is good, and it sounds like they kept the fun WD localization outside of a few particularly-dated references. RPGFan said they undid the WD difficulty changes too, which is nice. I guess that part makes sense considering they'd have to re-alter the Japanese version's balance all over again, it's not nearly as easy as plugging in the translation.
No fan features like art gallery, music library, lore encyclopedia, etc is disappointing. But still, the games are there, so, I'll be happy enough.

The dub isn't even a choice from the devs. I mean, they couldn't get the old ones due to a choice made by old devs whatever. So all they could do is make a new one... =/
All these 'influencers' getting copies while fans are told to go die actually makes me less excited for a game I've wanted on Steam for years.
Was going to leave a positive review but company attitude here just might have changed it to a negative.

They cleaned up the script so some lines were unchanged. They didn't just copy and paste the original script and call it a day.
I am looking forward to this. I imagine it will be a good way to play these games.

That's all I really wanted, so yeah... cool.

He seems to be complaining that professional reviewers with a decent following often get review copies ahead of the release date. It's hardly an uncommon practice, not sure why there's a bug up his ass about this one.

That joke was only on Sega CD, old PSX version already removed that.

Consensus seems to be: Games are great and the visual improvements are nice, but the new dubbing is absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible, like fingernails on a chalkboard.
