PS3 controller setup

I own a PS3 slim, and have 2 controllers with it. I wanted to see if they would work with this game. I plugged in the charging/USB cord into my computer, and went to set up the controls. When it asked to press any button on the device it wouldn't imput. Any ideas how to set it up?

there is a way to trick windows into thinking a playstation controller is an xbox controller. with the dualshock 4, i installed a program called ds4 windows and it worked perfectly. you will need to google how to do it with ds3. you have to do it, as very few windows games work with playstation controllers.
