Gold Grind Efficiency
So, if you're like me, you've finished everything but are still achievement hunting. I'm down to the achievements for unlocking all skills for each of the characters. I was curious what the most efficient way to do this was, so I started keeping track of gold recieved vs time spent. Here's what I've got:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lRdgaiB3CkK5wFk6MUzWDkEpcmz4SroURauB-1Zsfgk/edit?usp=sharing

Some notes on how I did these:

  • In coal mines, I always asked the miner for gold
  • I used the witch, with Hynx's staff for all runs
  • I opted for the witch's attack multipliers, and attack bonuses for most dungeon bonus selections, so I could kill enemies quicker
  • I didn't use any items that would boost attack / agility; that way each dungeon was judged pretty fairly
  • I did use shrines
  • I counted time based on the time reported at the end of each dungeon. This means that technically, some dungeons may take longer because of the time it takes to skip cutscenes.

TL;DR - Infested sewers is the quickest way to get gold, technically, and Deepest Dungeon is the slowest. Realistically, with how many times you'd have to run Infested Sewers and skip it's cutscenes / wait for the end of dungeon report, Witch's Hideout may actually be most effective.

so you are saying the first map is the best XD ?

basically, yes. You can get the most gold in the shortest amount of time by running the first level over and over. Again, I didn't bother timing "full" time spent clicking through the level intros, etc. I suspect that Witch's Hideout is slightly quicker due to that. And also less annoying than running the short intro level hundreds of times.

In the options theres a skip cutscenes right? how come that does not work?

Thanks for the numbers. I'm at the same point and tried a similar setup with the witch. I grinded the tree repeatedly in hopes of power berries but only got 1 after many runs. Couple that with the undead moose in there, its not worth it time wise. Witch on witch action it is.
I feel that the coal mine is a great spot for gold farming, I mean with the mercenary it gets to a point where you memorize the patterns and with some decent items(Im running with sonya´s fire) , it can be done pretty quickly and each run would yield 120 - 115 gold..

Well I am nowhere near the end stage but thats what Ive experienced so far, loving the game so far.

I have also been trying to get gold from coal mine + mercenary. The only problem i've run into is that the coal golems have a firebreath that will usually deal a couple damage even if i block due to how long it lasts. Anybody have a tip for these guys?

mash block :D
Well I agree with Marauder Shields, mash blocking seems to do it xp, with golems I ussualy time five slashes before his first swing, then two more after his second swing(which he does quicker than the first)if you time it well you can get the second hit in as a riposte, and then just repeat that..but yeah they can be a real pain in the arse :

when fighting some of the mid/later game bosses, you also have to mash block, since they have some nasty long attacks

Empirically (meaning, without actually taking the time to write down gold and do any maths), I came to the same conclusion. IS takes 30-40 seconds with a witch (1-hit everything), and gives 30g. Other dungeons are more fun (varied) and longer, thus making the grind fell slightly less repetitve, though: I usually just cycle through them, also according to my currently active missions, which ultimately give a very nice boost to the gold inflow.
