Cutscenes/Cinematics/FMVs Won't Play
And I thought the PC port of the first one was bad.

I tried each of these solutions to no avail (For those wondering why the first file doesn't have a .wmv extension like a couple of the links below suggest you add to it it's because I undid it):

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II - PCGamingWiki [pcgamingwiki.com]

Steam Forum Discussions:
  1. For some reason my cutscenes won't play (with solution)
  2. HERE are the Fixes for Crashes/Freezing AND Kamino elevator looping scene
I've just resorted to staring at the multiple windows I have opened in attempting to solve this problem...you know in case staring them to death fixes the problem. You can see a screenshot of my screen here[imgur.com] in case the reference comes in handy for any of you in attempting to help me.

I know what some of you are going to say and I'd rather not watch them on Youtube because:
  1. I paid for this game (very little due to how I got the feeling the series didn't/doesn't live up to the hype and what I heard, read, and knew about them both being bad ports) and the whole package should be working.
    and
  2. It'll feel so awkward though going through gameplay, only to skip to a whole new level of the game without a proper transition to it.

Anyone here have any experience with getting this part of the game to work? Anything in that screenshot I linked that I can work with that I haven't already?

Nope. I uninstalled the game actually and moved on to other games. If I ever go back to it and reinstall it I may try again.

Well it is 2019, but I was able to fix this after trying multiple things others suggested here on the Steam forum.

I'm running this game on Steam, on Windows 10 box with an Xbox One Controller no problem.

1) Make sure you have windows media player installed
2) Find a .WMV file on your computer, any will do, if you don't have one, download one somewhere online.
3) Right-click on the WMV file, go to "Properties".
4) In "Properties" where it says "Open With" click on "Change"
5) Select "Windows Media Player" as the default app for WMV files.
6) Click on your start menu
7) In start menu type: Default Apps
8) Click on "Default Apps" that comes up in the start menu
9) Under "Video Player" change the default player to "Windows Media Player"
10) Relaunch the game, you can test if the vids work by going to "Extras" and looking at the "Cinematics"

You may have to uninstall and re-install the game? Not sure, I did this because I had messed up my game files, but it may not be necessary.

Just wanted to say that this solution for me (Windows 10 64Bit) 100% worked, and I did not have to reinstall the game. The cinematics are still a little jumpy and get stuck in a rut for a few seconds sometimes, but at least I know what's going on between chapters. Thanks for the fix!

I don't know if you ever got this working. Just like you I was trying everything under the sun to get the cutscenes to work. The last thing I did was change the resolution to make the windowed mode bigger. After doing that cutscenes started working like they should even in full screen mode. I changed mine to 1920 X 1080. If you see this and try it I hope it works.
