In Duke killing the babes was also a penalty as it would spawn ♥♥♥♥ tons of aliens around you :p That's probably why killing them is less brought up when there are debates like this.
IMO there was no misogyny in these games ... Some people are LOOKING FOR stuff that are wrong where there aren't any.
No offense, but Soul Eater did a much better job of coming off as 'joking' XD
What I meant was, he was funnier.
Excuse me, but you can't just label the new Shadow Warrior as misogynistic and claim it's "to be fair". This is for two reasons:
1) There are hardly any women in 2013 Shadow Warrior in the first place. There are female demons that attack you and yes, you must kill them, but they are dispatched with no more or less violence than the male demons, and I don't recall Lo Wang making any sexist jokes at their expense. I didn't even know some of the demons were female until I saw some of the game artwork. The 2D cutoff girls from the original Shadow Warrior don't count, because they are simply retro easter eggs. You can't even interact with them. You certainly can't kill them, like you could in the original game. Sexist, sure, but not misogynistic. Which bring me to my second point...
2) You obviously don't understand the definition of misogyny, so your application of the label to the new Shadow Warrior is plainly incorrect. The only female character in the game of any consequence is Ameonna, the weeping demon maiden. She is pivotal to the plot, and a tragic figure, but she's not treated as a posession, or a sexual plaything, and she's not oppressed because of her sex. Rather, she is the sole provider of something that the demon world simply cannot live without. Since her happiness means the death of the demon realm, she is under a curse to never be happy. That's not misogyny, or sexism. Ameonna and Hoji's sexes could have been switched and the story would have been practically the same.
Also
3) Wang is actually pretty likeable in the reboot.
I'm really liking this trend of rebooting/sequel to old FPS games following the HL2 route (aka adding the feels to the murder)
So when do Duke Nukem and Sam Stone get their turn?
IMO Serious Sam doesn't need a reboot. It needs SS4 ^^
Just like Duke Nukem is a homage to all the 80's action heroes/actors (Arnold/Stallone/Kurt Russel/etc), Shadow Warrior is a homage to all 80's (or earlier) asian fighting movies (Bruce Lee and specially Godfrey Ho movies), along with all the steriotypícal asian culture that was bought up to the west (which was not as popular when SW first came out).
Heck, we all know 3d realms didint even sticked with just to the "westernized" asian pop culture (manga/movies etc), we have Monty Python references and such.
So before anyone go on crying about sexism/whatever. This is a parody, an elaborate and fun one, but still parody.
Its like complaining South Park or Family Guy is not politically correct.
The sad part of all of this? Flying Wild Hog decided to not continue the first game's legacy and instead just turned its story into a more generic fantasy one.
