Best DPS upgrade options for melee/range weapons overall?
So I cannot decide, but I'm not that experienced in this game.

Whats the best options for weapons?

On the very basic side for element weapons, useful to have high Damage converted to X-Element or just damage %?

Priorize crit chance over raw damage? Whats about more crit damage? Is crit chance useless on sniping weapons like Gauss Rifle cuz headshots' always crits?

Something like that.

Would some experienced player answer my questions based on tests? I did my own lil testing, but I'm not really sure what I tested lol.

Critical Chance and Elemental Powers (Electricity being the best) will give you the largest boost in damage in that order and when combined even the toughest enemies drop like grunts. If you want to be stupidly overpowered put as much Crit Chance as you can on an automatic weapon and just laugh at the demons.

whats the point of increasing critical chance instead of critical damage when I would crit anyway without that when headshoting?

Stinging ____ Of Fluke = Crit dmg + crit chance, ideal for melee weapons (they don't crit on HS) with 110+ mod you can break the 1k DPS with swords.

There are no physical immunes so why bother with Elemental damage?

Either to exploit the weakness of your enemies, or because it's slightly more effective depending on how strong the elemental effect is.

thank ya guys that clears something up for me. But how does elemental powers work? I guess you mean with that not elemental damage itself more the status condition apllied with elements?

No physical immunity but there is physical resist. Is resist not effective enough to warrant using elemental instead?

I've seen physical immune enemies on insane difficulty, but not in any lower difficulties.

It's definitely worthwhile to use elemental damage against physical resist enemies, resists cause a large loss in DPS.

While it doesnt display it correctly, the way the explosive and skatter shot mods interact, you can do some hellish dmage witht he right combo. Hint, explosive's aoe runs on the weapons total damage, not pellet damage.

scatter seems useless just splitting damage on multiple projectiles, are they really useful?

IMO phys resist isn't enough. I was fooling around in free roam and I crit for ~500 damage on phys res mobs with an 819 dps Orochi. Even on Insane P4 enemies melt.

Edit: On another note, the 100% Force Slash on attack makes guns useless so there is another aspect of gameplay that can totally be ignored. Add some life drain and you're essentially invincible.

All of your weapons should have elemental mods.

All of them.

There is no huge disadvantage to it other than some enemies come with elemental resistances, plus you eventually start hitting physical (non-elemental) damage resistant and IMMUNE enemies. You want to jack up that elemental damage to as high of a percent as possible. There are no exceptions to the rule except for the boss fight with Zilla's mech since it's literally the only point in the game where physical damage is his one weakness, everything else is weaker to elemental.

Aside from that, critical chance paired with critical damage increases make for a deadly combination, especially on things like rail guns. I got a rail gun to do ~2.2k damage on a crit and between 700 and 1k on most normal shots. Also, sometimes it's better to prioritize burst damage on a weapon over DPS. A weapon with 600 burst damage is going to kill something faster than a weapon with 300 DPS most of the time. DPS is more for crowd control, the big guys crumble under burst.

So is it better to have a higher dps with elemental upgrades or is it better to have the highest possible elemental conversion? For example is it better to jack up the dps with as much "extra damage as ..." or to try to get the highest damage conversion on a weapon?
