Can't enable HDR on an HDR TV
So, I was interested in trying out an HDR game. The first one on PC!

Except that I can't enable it in game.

I've got a Sony X810C that does support HDR content over HDMI. I've got an Nvidia 1080 video card on the latest 373.06 drivers. I've got the latest HDMI cable version that allows me to run 4K 60Hz as well as 1080P 120Hz. Windows 10 Pro X64 Anniversary Update (version 1607).

I've tried 3840X2160 and 1080P. I've tried all of the Chroma options, I've tried RGB, I've tried the various 8, 10, and 12 bit options as they were available (although only a few modes allowed for Full and not Limited for the dynamic range).

The game obstinately won't let me enable HDR.

What gives?

Your TV not supports HDR. Look at the review (Inputs) http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x810c
For example, this model supports it (inputs)

I don't have this problem.

That's old data as the firmware was updated to enable HDR over HDMI (it even says it on the Enhanced HDMI option - and it says it on Sony's website).

Edit: But I wouldn't put it past Sony to screw the pooch on it.

I have Samsung KS8000 and it works perfectly.

You need to use the proper HDMI 2.0 cable (usually reads High Speed HDMI or something along those lines for 4K resolution) and you need to run the game in fullscreen.

Also known as a HDMI 2.0 cable.

I have a sony 4k HDR tv.. the x800D and HDR is working flawlessly.

Did you make sure you went into settings and enabled "Enhanced HDMI" mode ? Once you do that you should be able to select HDR mode in the settings menu and see the difference immediately.

HDR really takes the colors in this game up by quite a few notches. I love it

Enabling Enhanced HDMI mode is the only way to get 3840X2160 in a format other than Chroma 4:2:0 on the X810C.

So yes, I did enable it. And I've enabled and tried it out on multiple HDMI inputs.

I've also tried forcing Full instead of Auto for HDR mode detection. Still doesn't allow me to enable HDR in game.

Edit: For ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and grines - I've also tried it without Enhanced HDMI enabled - still can't enable HDR in game.

Do you have your color depth set to 10bpc in nvidia panel?

There is no 10 bit color depth except in Chroma 4:2:2 and doesn't allow me to select Full for my output dynamic range, and yes I've tried it. And no it doesn't allow me to enable HDR in game.

Edit: Several other modes, including RGB, allow for 12 bit color and Full dynamic range. Those don't work either. I've tried ALL combinations.

Edit 2: I'm 95% certain that it is Sony not actually fixing their HDR support on the X810C. But I suppose it could be a game bug that doesn't recognize my X810C as HDR compatible (it DOES play HDR content fine (and it's verifiable since HDR mode grays out any picture mode changes) via USB and via the built in Android streaming apps that support it).

We've been over that on the Sony forums.

Sony reps have confirmed (however much that is worth) that Enhanced HDMI does support the processing and output of HDR over HDMI on the X810C, The Enhanced HDMI option even says that it supports HDR in the description.

Again, the X810C DOES support HDR via USB and streaming apps that support HDR - it can be confirmed when HDR content is played as the TV will no longer allow you to change the picture mode (it's grayed out, just like on other Sony HDR TVs).

Does that mean Sony didn't screw the pooch and not actually enable HDR over HDMI? No. That's why I am 99.5% certain that Sony messed up (big surprise there with their shiptastic HDR track record thus far).

However, there is a chance that the bug lies with the game as this is the SOLE HDR PC (not Xbox One or Playstation 4 Pro or HDR Blu-Ray) content that I'm aware of thus far.

well HDR itself didn't really become a thing for TVs until this year, 2016, and its still very much in its infancy and standards are still being disputed, expecting a 2015model tv to work with HDR in its current state is probably not gonna happen the way you'd want it to. i myself do not own a HDR display i prefer to game on my Acer predator 27" 1440p 165hz monitor until HDR standards are a bit more firm, and tuned for quality in newer TV models (also purchased 2yr spill or accident replacement plan on my Acer predator so i have my fingers crossed in the next 2yrs that PC monitors will start to support HDR and 120hz+ 4k displays and ill take current monitor to the curb for a brand new 2018 model lol)

For the record I'm having this EXACT same problem with my Vizio p-series (2016). Which is FULLY HDR capable. HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

I've also tried all the combinations and permutations in the nvidia control panel (8, 10, 12 bit, 4:2:0, 4:2:2, 4:4:4, 1080p, 4k, 30hz, 60hz, 120hz)

And it still doesn't work!

There is an option on my screen to enable "hdmi multi sampling" which is what you have to do to enable HDR on the hdmi inputs, I'm guessing that this is the same option as "enhanced HDMI" as you guys referenced above? Or is that an option in-game that I'm missing?
