I hate it when people consider SW1 some holy relic of a golden era when it was just a mediocre shooter even for its time. I also hate it when people say that SW2013 was astounding when it was nothing more than a solid action game with a good story and restrictive level design.
You hit that on that head there Dibbley. The game is amazing and FWH knows what they are doing. They have talent no doubt. Im glad to see i share the same opinion as you. that means there are a whole lot more of us out there. I cant wait for more from FWH and im not even done with this game yet. That says a lot for SW2.
It's pretty solid except for the dreaded lack of level design. The procedal generation doesn't seem to have too many layouts to work with, every level of it's own theme looks the same. That's a big negative for me.
Well, I cannot remember any arcade game in which you spend so long in your inventory to upgrade the most simple stuff.
The features are clearly stated on the store page; if anyone thinks this game is more of the same based on that probably has never played a dungeon crawler. They are not obligied to stick to the same formula. (As if there was a formula to begin with.) Yet people who don't like the genre, (which is fine) buy the game anyway and then yet still complain. Wh-what? I can understand FWH they said they were going for the same deal and then didn't, but that's not the case here. The people who didn't read the features have no one else to blame but themselves.
We get it, it's not like SW 2013 (which in turn isn't even like SW 1997 either), and no doubt it really is a bummer for people who wanted more of the same. But its like everyone is raising the pitchfork or crying holy hell just because FWH wanted to try something new. Move on.
They're not obliged to stick the same formula, and like jadenkey said, it's not like either of them "captured the essence" of the original anyway, and even THAT game wasn't completley original, it was just Duke Nukem 3D with different assets. (And for the record, I'm not downing any of these games.) FWH is even generous enough to only charge the game for as much as PC games used to cost back in the day of the very orginals.
SW2013 is just as "nostalgic for the fans" as much as Doom is nostalgic to 1993 Doom...oh, wait...both reboots have lite RPG mechanics allowing you to focus on different playstyles while the originals don't. But what about Woflenstien New Or..nope...that game too!
"Why don't I just play Borderlands?"
Just because one game has already done it, doesn't mean nobody else is allowed to try. BL isn't even really the best comparison anyway IMO, I'd say it's a cross between BL and Dead Island, as this game equally focuses both on melee combat and guns, with the full random generation of Diablo as well. (Ok well, maybe Warframe or Hellgate London, you get the idea.)
Yeah, the level design is samey, but you try and create a million enviornments tilesets (in 3D) that connect to each other in believeable ways. 2D dungeon crawling this is not. Personally I feel the Japanese towns in SW1 are no more well thought-out than the randomly generated ones in SW2.
Not sure what you are trying to say here. The shooting defiently feels arcadey, but twitchy as well cause of the movement.
Taking the time to upgrade your aresenal is pretty much the heart of an RPG. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but it seems that people who are bugged by this seem to have short attention spans if all they want to do is just rush rush rush through the levels instead of taking the time to at least attempting to enjoy what the game is trying to offer.
I've already suggested several dlcs in that theme - http://steamcommunity.com/app/324800/discussions/0/341537388321229132/?ctp=57 .
Here's the list of suggested dlcs (to be made in nearest months):
november 2016: "A way of the hamster" dlc - tougher enemies for weapons with 4K dps, max grind - 12K dps, $10
january 2017: "Bloody dogs run" dlc - enemies for weaponry with 12K dps, 30K dps max farm, $13
march 2017: "Horse of doom" dlc - enemies for weaponry with 30K dps, 100K dps max farm, $20
june 2017: "Hawk of the storms" dlc - enemies for weaponry with 100K dps, 350K dps max farm, $30
august 2017: "Demons rage" dlc - enemies for weaponry with 350K dps, 1 millon dps max farm, $45.
Please let the devs know that you do support my idea!
