Maybe he thought it would get better. Borderlands 2 starts boring too, but it becomes much more fun after the first 3 hours.

Or they simply have more patience and maturity than you.

It's all just a bit too small/short. Campaign was too short and not memorable, and the levels are too small.
If they added a 1vs1 duel mode like in Borderlands this game could actually maintain a healthy playerbase though.
the game doesn't feel very short to me, if you should so ask. probably due to the main reason, that I tend to really explore a map and open up everything, on top of killing most enemies on any given map (whether during missions or free roam) and farming some of the mini-bosses for Orbs.
if you say the weapons feel weak, then what's the highest damaging weapon in your current arsenal? do tell
