How Grindy Is SW2?
I loved the first game when I played it years ago, and now that this is on sale, I kinda want to try it out. The thing is that it seems the game has been turned into a Borderlands/Destiny/Warframe-esque looter shooter, with a focus on cycling through randomly generated weapons/upgrades and farming said things. My question is whether or not this is a main gameplay look that you're expected to pursue to progress or not? I'm looking for a DOOM 2016 experience, where I get a fun and fluid shooter, and where don't have to farm for ♥♥♥♥ on my way through the story mode just to progress.

it's very grindy, indeed. but in the long run, it's quite rewarding

You don't need to farm. If you're good enough you can just punch your way through DOOM style.

Grinding is helpful, grinding is balanced [for the most part] and thus pleasant, YET...

...IT'S NOT NECESSARY, so don't get wrong ideas from MTF post above me. It's optional.

Game was made with replayability [New Game+ and so on] in mind. You can DOOM it alright tho.

This game is real short, so there isn't much to do in it other than grind.

Side note: I recommend Painkiller: Black Edition if you want an amazing & fluid FPS game.

It’s probably the most grinding of game I’ve ever played. That said you can opt out of all the grinding and just play through the story no problem

ya but honestly this game is pretty empty if you strip the grinding and looting away. The story is lame and the Storymode is very very short with basicly no interesting stuff happening. This entire game is build around rng and its a lot of fun. But aside from that its realy empty.

This game is simply not for people who dont like looting and grinding.

You kinda missed the part where it's a great, very dynamic shooter.

It has indeed very good mechanics and is fun to play. Which is the reason the grind makes oh so fun. But i stil think that people who are not into looting will find this game underwhelming.

As a lot of "why isnt SW2 like SW1 omfg the grind and loot sucks" stated by several people proof.

It really depends what kind of grind we talking about here, because you'll almost never have a hard time getting a gem that you need.

You get gems and karma (xp) when killing enemies, and each level up rewards you a point to sink into one of your skills. I'd say that's more of a grind than the gems, but you do level up kinda fast...

Basically, if you're looking to just shoot ♥♥♥♥ up and have fun but aren't into the looting stuff much and just wanna say you've beaten the game, you can perfectly do that since imo gems aren't even really that important til late insanities which will take you a couple beatings of the campaign. There's nothing new quest-wise when playing the campaign again so you ain't gonna miss out on anything.

The grind for certain gems can be very tedious. For example i am allways looking for a gem with Damage resist Life drain for my Armor. Getting one on a very high lv like 250+ can be a pain in the asss.
