How open world is this game?
As a rule I despise open world games, the endless backtracking and long boring stretches of walking to the arbritrary mission start points drives me insane and completely sucks the fun out of games for me. I absoluitely despised games like dying light, MGS 5, GTA 5, etc because of the endless amounts of down time between actual missions.

I prefer linear games, Doom was one of my favorite games this year, and I absolutely loved the original shadow warrior.

I want to buy this game because of how much I enjoyed the first one but when I see open world in the description I get very wary. For those of you who have played it, based on what I said above do you think this game is worth my time?

It's not open world, it's a series of maps that you teleport to from a main hub when you start each mission. There is very little down time, just teleport to map x, complete objectives, teleport out.

the maps themselves is somewhat big, as you can go around killing everything and opening up loot boxes for ammo/money/cash

It is not really open world, more like randomise map chunks being sewn together to make a level.

No. Borderlands' world is connected, SW2's world is just chunks. You never have to travel anywhere, unlike BL.
