I hope this doesn't happen with all the factions.
According to the mod team it can be hardware dependent but I couldn't tell you why exactly.
I don't know if this is a stupid question, but Hapes is the only faction I have found myself radically changing ground structures (i.e. selling some to build others to achieve mission goals, clearing space for more ground unit production, selling immediately after winning mission goals, etc.).
Would that make any difference?
The framework is built into just about everything, so when it crashes for any given reason it takes everything else down with it. There's no method of restarting the framework once it has crashed. You can only reload an earlier save and hope it that whatever is causing it to crash isn't consistent enough to proc reliably at a given point.
As for what can cause it to break... That's a hard one as there are a lot of moving parts and any one of them could be the culprit. In my experience selling buildings and then building new ones in their place hasn't been an issue. I am not a dev though and so can only really guess at what might be causing it.
