1. Has to be Republic at War. Arguably the best, and definitely the most polished. It feels like it's own expansion, if you try any, try this one.

2. Is Thrawn's Revenge. It's arguably the most balanced, and lore intensive. Personally I find it a bit dull, visually, but if you want some epic space battles, and a unique tech system, I say it's a must.

3. Is Awakening of the Rebellion. I only recently discovered it, but it quickly became one of my favourites. It's very visually good looking, and makes you think more about tactical choices as ships are very expensive, and you really feel it when you lose them.

(Warning though, 2.5 can be tricky to install in English, but overall is fairly polished, ask if you need help; 2.6 English Beta, has many improvements, but is very glitchy.)
4. Is the Clone Wars mod. It's based on the show, and is surpizingly different to Republic at War.
It has some pretty fun ground combat, but I have to rank it lower because the space combat isn't the best, and it likes to crash a lot when saving. A problem I never had when playing RaW.

5. Is a bonus one, Stargate: Pegasus Chronicles. It's still very early in developement, and they don't have ground battles nor galactic conquest yet. But it's a very good mod nonetheless, and seems to be very much a labour of love.

P.s. Make a copy of your XML folder, and replace it whenever you change from Republic at War, or Awakening of the Rebellion, to another mod. Both those mods make changes to the AI, replace the XML folder(and in RaW's case: remove the "scripts" folder) whenever you play something else.
I hope this helps you find a mod you like.
Thanks, Zupanicarr :D
EDIT: Or was it for newer computers? Crap, I can't remember what the deal with the ram fix is, I woke up ten minutes ago. But I don't think you'd need it.
Please help, for me its impossible play conquest mode without this, i cant feel the inmersion...
You can't get immersion unless you start with only one planet, even though in lore each faction had many planets(by Thrawn's Revenge's time, each would have had hundreds, if not thousands)? Fair enough. I'd recommend Thrawn's Revenge as well.

What do you mean don't use the entire patch? Do you mean just copying over some files to the directory?
Long story short, Star Wars modding communities are awesome.
(Though TR isn't my personal favourite.)
wont play without it one of the best galactic conquest mods in my opinion
