Is this one worth buying?

Would I be happy with this purchase if I were a fan of galactic battlegrounds, age of empire, grey goo, c&c, starcraft etc?

Just need some input from the vets of this game :)

Well, I enjoyed both Age of Empires and this game. I liked Starcraft a little bit. I love Star Wars, and I think this was my main reason for enjoying Star Wars: Empire at War.

You will not like the ground combat. The ground based RTS in this game is not very good, atleast, in the baser game. Several mods do completely change the ground combat so that could be something to look into.

That said, Space battles in this game a very good, and mods only add to the greatness.
It will feal very clunky and unresponsive if your coming from SC2 or grey goo. I am saying this after coming back to it after maybe 5 years of not playing it. I hardly noticed how clunky the ground combat as back then unnmodded.

You will probably like it, especially if you go into the massive library of mods available.

Its a fantastic game, and the mods are amazing as well, however I'll warn you up front there's some balance issues. Not with any specific unit being too op, though the canderous is close in FOC, but more along the lines of if you use them in numbers you'll destroy everything. Definitely worth buying, though, I don't think you'll regret it once you get used to it. Have well over 1000 hours invested in it, only about 400 of which are recorded on steam. Absolutely recommend it.

try thrawns revenge as your first mod, it's alot of fun and is a better representation of the new republic.

I've go 190 logged hours on Steam and over 1000 unlogged hours before I got steam. It's worth it.
Also if you want Multiplayer Online now you have to go to Game Ranger because GameSpy Shut Down.

I've played this game off and on for several years and, minus Age of Mythology, this has been one of my favorite micro managing games. I highly recommend it! I found the DLC more fun than the actual original campaign but I think it's just because I played it so many times. It's an awesome game over all!
