STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

Seemingly impossible fleet strength? Bug?
I fired this game up again after a very long time for good memories and of course, being rusty, even as the Empire, I got my butt kicked all the way back to my home planet.

I'm playing the scenario "equal footing" but put my starting tech level at 1. Anyway, the rebels keep attacking me with - i'm not kidding 40 nebulon cruisers, 100 fighters and 30-50 other assorted capital ships (in addition to the 40 nebulon cruisers). For a total of 200 units, half of which take up 2-3 logistics points. There are only something like 30-40 planets in the whole game, and since this is Forces of Corruption, Zann has many of the worlds also. So what gives?? How is that possible?

Incidentally, the funny part is that I can hold off the entire attack without taking hardly any losses b/c I have a 2x strength hypervolicty cannon, a 5 level starbase, Captain Piett's imperial star destroyer with Grand Moff Tarkin on it. But with 200 rebels ships it's impossible to do anythnig else either.

Umm.. what is the problem/question? A human player can keep the AI at bay severely outnumbered because the AI is stupid. And yes I do believe the AI cheats like in most games or it could also be that they just have that many starting units.
well you goofed clearly, rebels are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrors with their fighters but I find that even on easy if the ai has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of lancers or what ever zhan's corvettes are called you can destroy the rebels with ease as the primary focus for them is shields and fighters. build more lancers and strike cruisers untill you can get more worlds and get some bigger ships, imperial ISD II are murderous in small packs with lancer and strike cruiser picket lines, just be sure to send lots of probes so you know where a ion cannon is, 1 ion cannon+ 5-10 bombers fighter mix=dead as ♥♥♥♥ super star destroyer

Thanks for the responses. Actually I think I discovered the source of my confusion and it stems for not playing this game for almost a decade lol and being rusty. Each new battlestation provides 10 logistics (or whatever) points. I thought it was only 2-3 points b/c the upgrades only provide a marginal increase. I the rebels controlled about 15 planets thats 150 points right there, plus say about 2 upgrades each at what about 3 points each thats, 15 * 2 * 3 = 90. But they still seemed overpowered. I mean I'm talking 100 capital ships at 2 logistics each plus 100 fighters.

I actually had the most exciting game EVER, at least for me. They pushed me back on to Courscant, and I fought a very close land battle there after they destroyed my level 4 battlestation in a very close fight. After that I regarrisoned the place, along with colonel Veers, built all mining operations there except for 2 hypervelocity cannons (I sold back the underlying factories after the HV Cannons were built), and just waited turn after turn while the rebels controlled my space but didn't land. While they fought the Zann Consortium, eventually I just kept buying more and more tech getting FREE heroes! They were strong enough to secure the space above me (barely) with a level 3 Battelstation, and then the rebels were smart enough to attack me just before I built (99% complete) my level 5 battlestation. But with Gov Tarkin, the Admiral, Captain Piett, a level 4 BS constantly spawning new ships and the HV Cannon destroying a ship every time it figured, the rebels just could not win. When I got the level 5 station, they kept throwing themselves at me turn after turn but just wouldn't learn it was hopeless. Then began a whole new challenging round of trying to figure out how to get off Courascant and reexpand, and now, I'm coming back baby!

To me, anyway, that's the real fun of these games. Turning around hopeless tactical battles and strategic scenarios...

It's true, i know this situation well, i usually play as zann and usually only start on a single world. so trying to gain a foothold is incredibly difficult and fun.
