Same here. But in my directory, the .exe files are still around for some reason.
This "nuclear option" includes registry cleaning and disabling/uninstalling your Anti-Virus temporarily.
I just tried that with THIS setup and it seem to have worked.
#1 Uninstall the game, clean the install folder.
#2 Clean registry using the method in the link.
Select anything that clearly states path/location in the EaW/FoC install folders ("..steam/steamapps/common/star wars empire at war/corruption" etc.) and delete them. For me the app in the guide showed lots of exception rules for Antivirus/firewall and references in other programs (such as for trainers/Cheat Engine tables) but those should be safe to ignore. It'll prolly tell you X amount of stuff was not deleted. This is OK.
#3 Disable/uninstall Antivirus
Some users have reported big problems with their AV after the update so it could be a factor here.
#4 Restart PC
#5 Download and install Empire at War (and mods, may need to resub to them.)
Tho it is better to do mods later (your "modlist" should be wiped at this moment) - after you've confirmed if it's fixed or not.
#6 re-enable/install your Antivirus
It is a bit of a project to do, sure, but it seem to fix things more often than not.
