Why dont they remaster this game or update the engine?

Most likely reason I believe and I can be wrong is that the devs and or publishers do not have the rights anymore. Just like how I would love this remade or a sequel to just like how I wish they would remake or sequel to Battle for Middle Earth 2.

Oh man don't remind me. Battle for middle earth 2 is so good. I still play it via uh.. certain ways. But it deff aged but it's so damn good.

But as you said, no rights anymore. It's such a shame, that one and Empire at war are actually really good RTS games that do things differently.

ea remastered the og c&c and they said that they were surprised by the success. yet no tiberian sun / ra2 or generals remaster.

they are waiting for disney to greenlight a remaster for this game

But they still do release an update from time to time. They made the game 64bit for example and multiplayer working again. They also added more stuff for modders to influence in the files I believe.
