Most of their units come with mini tutorials on how to install them so that's a good place to start.
What you're wanting to do is probably considered a more intermediate or advanced level. It's not impossible, but it's much more work than simple plug-and-play when you are digging through someone else's mod files.
Units are more like just copying over the art data, finding the proper code to move over, and adding its icon. It's not too hard since modding .xml files is super easy, but it's the first step of "figuring out where everything is" that can be problematic. Trial and error is probably gonna be the best way to learn though, and it's kind of like trying to solve a puzzle with crashes and glitches.
