Empire at War will not Start (Solved)
I used to play this game for hours (hundreds actually). When the new patch went live I decided to try it out, but to my dismay the game will refuse to start. Every single time i try to launch the game this is what happens:
-I hit play (on the steam library)
-I click FOC, and play again.
-It says preparing to launch in a pop up window. The game says "running" in the Library section
-The pop up disappears
-The game will say synching in blue (in the library) and then go back to normal, as though the game was exited, or never launched in the first place. Other times it will just skip straight from "running" to "normal" (and skip the synching stage).
tl;dr game wont even start
Now, for the things I have tried.
-Running as Admin
-Restarting PC
-Verifing of Game cache
-Re-installing
-Completely removing/deleting all mentions of petroglyph and EAW, and then re-installing
-Turning off Steam Overlay, and Steam game file Synch.
-Updating Windows
-Updating Nvidia, Intel drivers
My system specs are overkill, and prior to this patch they were able to launch the game just fine. I have an "Asus ROG GL552VW," with the following specs:
Windows 10
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
16 GB of Ram
Intel HD Graphics 530
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960m
A couple of Side notes. I was able to "play" the game by launching one of the exe's direct from the local files, but I would not load mods, multiplayer etc. It also crashes very often.
Also, and perhaps more importantly, Sometimes when i try to install the game, it tells me I am "missing file privelleges." I find that usually this is due to an intel program called igfxem preventing access/modification to the local files.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do??
Edit!!! (Solution)
Ok, so thanks to steam user Duke Nukem (duke, if your reading this, i owe you a drink m8) there is a solution. I'll Copy and Paste his solution here since it was his idea:
"So I believe that i've found a solution. Go into your SteamApps < Star Wars Empire At War folder and open your "corruption" folder. The game launches the swfoc .exe and the one that works is named StarWarsG. Simply switch the names of the files and steam now launches the game properly. The same applies for the base game: Switch sweaw and StarWars G and it'll run. Let me know if this works for any of you."

I am in the same boat my friend, my base game won't even launch now either 😒
also i was able to get mine fixed but for some reason it wont work on the D drive but C drive works
try turning cloud off then delete all files then remove the game then download the game in the drive C then D if the 1st one you pick after trying the others other then that i got no idea
i had a problem with could not reset direct 3D device i think the things is what i have done above then i download game in D drive with all other games i get the error with cloud off but it worked in C drive
so you know i got no idea about fixes so it might not work
