get the SSD with a massive support fleet, steam roll over the other factions planets leaveing 1 small ship in orbit to stop them building space stations, once you have all the planets space just do the same with ground forces, easy

If you want to set a trap for an SSD here is what I normally do
If I am New Republic: Ion Cannon on every planet, every planet is a trap
If I am Pentastar: I either go SSD vs SSD, or I need a very powerful Preator and support fleet.(Recommend Interdictor, especially on multiplayer)
If I am Remenant: SSD vs SSD, or hyper velocity and powerful ISD's with a lot of fighters
If I am Empire of Hand: Phalanx and all the capital ships can just smash an SSD
Note: Full pop of E-Wings or Tie Defenders can nearly solo a SSD(I havent tested it if SSD doesn't have support fleet)

One strategy to stand a chance against sovereign/eclipse class star dreadnoughts and their superlaser without instantly losing one of your capital ships instantly:

of course always use a vanguard unit...otherwise a random selction of your fleet will be sent into combat....with a vanguard unit you can send units of your choosing into battle and place them on the battlefield rather than trying to untangle the mess the game gives you without selecting a vanguard.

however....the eclipse/sovereign will immediately blast the strongest ship of your fleet to smithereens....with your fleet already deployed....you will lose your best ship straight away....but by using a vanguard (I prefer to use a cheap ship like IPV, lancer etc...) and immediately deploying another cheap ship the superlaser will destroy one of these insignificant ships....after that you can deploy the ships (capital ships) of your choosing to the battle field....and since the superlaser takes quite some time to reload....you'll have enough time to eliminate the dreadnought without the fear of losing precious ships to that annoying super weapon
