I don't remember anything about researching in the tutorial. I spent fifteen minutes looking at the ui on planet, in space, looked at all the buttons on and around the minimap. Cannot figure out how to research anything as Empire in Galactic Conquest. The Rebels can steal technology from Empire but the tutorial said nothing about Empire research. Please help! Otherwise I will be stuck fighting the rebellion with inferior units...

That is serious! The rebellion must be crushed! Certain planets (Corusant for example) should have the option to build a research center if you have building slots available. Then you are able to research the technology tiers for a fee. That goes for most GC modes. Now if you are playing the story line mode that follows the movie storyline well as you complete missions you unlock tech.
