Thrawn's Revenge Ground Combat Tips
So, I just started playing this mod again after a few years and although I'm having no trouble with space combat, ground combat is harder than I remember. You used to be able to win by just spamming infantry and light vehicles and rushing around the map in a deathball on high speed - not anymore. Since the real appeal of this mod - this whole game, really - are the space battles, I'd like to spend as little time and effort on ground combat as possible. What are the easiest ways to win ground battles in the current version of the mod?

Depends on the faction. With the Pentastar you have to use TX-130s to tank while Hailfire Droids deliver the hurting blow. As for the Eriadu Authority, you get an A6 Juggernaut early in the game and General Weir, a hero that is super tanky. Let Weir and the Juggernaut tank while your artillery and hovertanks deal the blows. Idk about the other factions as I've never really played them fully.

I generally play with NR and PA , and I use the good ol' Force User as a building wrecker(1) + Shielded light vehicles(2) as cover . Orbital bombardment and bombing run to do the heavy hitting . Plus Infantry to take& hold the ground. Everything else for extra firepower. Ping is priceless for scouting , without risking your Force User. That's for The Offensive . On the defensive , you need to echelon your Light Shileded Vehicles (even) , and Heavy , APC/ IFV (transport), and AA , and air units (odd) . The Infantry should ALWAYS be closest to the front , and distributed evenly amidst all Strong Points , and approach vectors . It is a whole galaxy out there , so I suggest you always be ready for some sneaky Cha'kaar to desroy your orbital defenses somewhere and force you to bite the mud along with all the grunts on the ground ...

Based on playing as the Empire the last few days, I've found AT-ATs are the key to winning ground battle with minimal loss. They're tanky, have good firepower, and can deploy stormtroopers whenever you need to capture something. The only downsides are that they're expensive and slow. But you can easily make up for that by spamming AT-STs as cheap, expendable padding for when you just want to bulk up your numbers fast. Also useful as scouts. It's good to have a few AT-AAs available too in case the enemy has air units. SPMAs are another specialist walker good for deploying if you need to crack a heavily fortified base, but leave them home otherwise. This strategy works very well, and seeing a line of AT-ATs slowly stomping across the landscape, obliterating everything in their path is very iconic.

I've got the Empire figured out, but I still have no idea how to play the New Republic. T4Bs seem pretty powerful, but they can't deploy infantry so the NR will have to use up a precious pop slot on some. That's a problem, because infantry are made of paper in TR and get slaughtered by enemy vehicles.

Also, in general I find that air units are a waste and bombing runs are very unreliable. The AI likes to build AA turrets, and they just shred anything that flies.
