Remake is very very very attractive in terms of beginner-friendliness and graphics, best UI, best models, best way to get into the game.
Awakening is super super interesting since it has alot of options and units. It's very diverse and harder to get into. The AI is relatively superhuman compared to the remake's AI which means alot in offline games.
In the end, start with remake, move onto other bigger mods. Only problem with remake is that it has no interesting additional mechanics, missions run dry and it has this sluggish feel when you captured half the galaxy in Galaxy Conquest.
EaW Remake is easy to run with 60 fps. Check your specs bro.
