STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

Turbolasers vs Laser Cannons
So...
what's the difference? I feel like cannons are more accurate and turbos are more powerful, but some times it can be hard to tell. Can someone please explain the actual difference please?

That's what I'm assuming. Laser cannons seem to have an easier time dealing with fighters while turbos take down larger space craft quicker.

It's also possible that the weapons just have specific damage bonuses versus certain units though, similarly to how PLEX soldiers can take down AT-STs with ease but suck at normal Stormtroopers.

Laser cannons are anti-fighter weapons, turbo lasers are for destroying ship/station hardpoints. That's why Corellian Corvettes are better at destroying fighters than Assault Frigates and why Assault Frigates are better at dealing with Acclamators

It's possible to change the values of each (by editing the projectile for damage, and the hardpoints for innacurracies versus different ship classes), but the base game is as has been mentioned, the lasers are more accurate versus fighters and other mobile type ships like correllian corvettes, while turbolasers do more damage and but are highly innaccurate versus fast moving ship types.

This is all true, but I believe turbolasers also have much longer range.

laser cannons are less powerful, and can range from the mini lasers that corellian corvettes shoot to deal with fighters, or the light laser cannons that acclamators possess. While not very good at assaulting hardpoints, they can do a number on fighter squadrons. Turbolasers are supposed to be for killing hardpoints on frigates, capital ships, space stations, etc., but they're not very good at killing fighters. They'll murder anything else with ease, though.

Turbolaser Batteries are to engage other capital ships or space stations. They take damage into effect, not as much accuracy. Laser cannon batteries are for dealing with starfighters and corevettes. They focus more on accuracy than damage. Hope this helps!

Turbo lazer are like 203mm main guns, while lazer cannon are like 20mm bofors canon

Thanks for your replies. This leads me to another point: the Empire's larger ships are seriously lacking in laser cannons, and taking any Tartan Cruisers with you leads to a significant reduction in the amount of Star Destroyers deployed. Are there mods that allow you to select fleet composition before battles or that add laser cannons to Star Destroyers?

I know that in Forces of Corruption, you have a small orange box when you view a fleet, and if you put a ship in it, that ship will be deployed first, letting you choose the rest when you start a battle. Keep in mind though that this will reset if you load a save.

It would be nice to reverse mod some of the innovative stuff that came with the FOC expansion, but I don't think it's possible, or at least, I'm doubtful that it is.

This doesn't answer either of your questions, but it's important to keep in mind that many imperial ships also have hangars and quickly deploy tie fighter and bomber squadrons (or interceptor or defender squadrons in FoC).

It also might not be very helpful if you're playing skirmish, but on FoC conquest if you build and use the Executor (Vader's capital ship) you start battles with 2 extra star destroyers that don't take up any space in the unit cap iirc. So you can then bring in tartans to your heart's content.

The Doom Fleet (my name for my main Imperial fleet) is entirely Star Destroyers because that's the only way to take out Level 5 Space Station's. I'll try FoC but it doesn't sound like it will actually fix the issue.

You'd be MUCH better off to use those long range missiles ships to take out any stationary targets from a safe distance, and use the rest of your fleet to defend your position...

I edit the hardpoints myself quite a lot, I have adjusted the accuracy of all weapons on ships, making even larger ships more capable of defending themselves but still are better off with support.

Currently adding a turbolaser to the Corellian Corvette because it does have a light turbolaser historically. Just trying to figure out which hardpoint applies to the turret on the CC aha
