STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

Battlefront Commander Mod problem
For some reason, any and every land battle I win/lose, causes the whole game to crash to desktop. Sometimes it'll crash as soon as the victory/defeat message shows, or sometimes it'll manage to get back to the galactic map before it crashes. Has anyone else ever had this issue, and if you have, might I ask how you solved it? I'd really appreciate some help.

There are multiple reports of this bug over on their moddb page and as far as I know there's not a fix, though some people have said it mostly only happens when one side uses rebel grenadiers. You could probably test it out by attacking a different faction's planet where the unit wouldn't be involved and see if it still crashes.

If it doesn't crash when that unit isn't involved, then I can probably help you disable that unit as a temporary fix.

Thank you for replying! I'll go and try it out, although I don't believe that unit was responsible for the last episode of crashing, as I was up against the Black Sun pirates, while I myself was the Empire, but I shall go and get myself into a fight with the grenadiers on-site. ¬_¬ Rebel Scum...thwarting my domination of the galaxy, with their pitiful, broken units...

You know what, come to think of it...Maybe you could just help me disable the unit anyway. That way, if I start playing and ground battles no longer crash the game, it'd be a fairly secure guess that it's the grenadiers.

Alright, so I downloaded the mod+1.03 patch and did a quick test. I didn't try *every* unit but in 5 land battles without grenadiers there were 0 crashes, then after one battle with grenadiers it crashed on the victory/defeat screen like you said. There may be other units that cause this issue, but at the very least I'll show you how to disable the grenadiers as a start.

First go to the mod's XML folder. It'll probably be in Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars Empire at War\corruption\mods\Star_Wars_Battlefront\Data\Xml. In there you'll see 2 folders and a few hundred .xml files, but we only edit one. Scroll down until you find "Units_land_Rebel_Grenadier.xml" and open it with a text editor like notepad or wordpad.

Go to line 294 or ctrl+f search <Build_Cost_Credits>. Add <!-- before this line so it looks like
<!-- <Build_Cost_Credits>260</Build_Cost_Credits>
Now go to line 304 or ctrl+f search <Required_Planets />. Add --> AFTER this one so it looks like
<Required_Planets /> -->
Then save. You've just commented out the GC build info so the game ignores this whole block. It will still be buildable in skirmish but not GC. We can edit skirmish building too if you need to later on, but for now let's see what happens with this. If you find another unit that causes crashes (which is possible) then commenting out this section should work for them too.

Done and done! Thanks for the help! I'll start a new GC and see how it goes. Here's hoping it works.
