A: The Empire inherited all the Republic ships and kept all standing Venators (with their superior fighter compliment)
B: Has more troopers that may not be as good as clone troopers, but have better vehicles and probably a large number advantage.
C: Their capital ship designers were like, "What would make these ships better?....Guns, a hell load of more guns!" To sum that up, every single Imperial capital ship outguns a Venator and even a VSD (which in canon there were very few, and in legends there were a lot. Keep in mind though, that VSD-1s are slow as ♥♥♥♥.)
D: If we go over the Mandator (which is legends because ♥♥♥♥ Disney) the Empire has multiple SSD classes in use, along with more Mandator classes then the Republic had.
All in all, the Empire would win easily just due to its enormity if not anything else.
Not if there is a multiverse.
We know the Empire has an obsession with making their ships as gigantic as possible (Death Star, Executor, Eclipse etc.) but as the movies have shown us, all that massive weaponry doesn't do much against small and agile fighters/bombers. That's how the Executor got taken out in The Return of the Jedi, a single fighter crashed in it's bridge. That's also the reason huge dreadnoughts and battleships are no longer being used in real life, fighters/bombers made them obsolete, this was made abundently clear during WW2 (look up the Yamato).
Carriers > battleships/dreadnoughts any day, both in fiction and real life.
As for the New Republic from the current trilogy, the Empire would win hands down.
All the New Republic had was a small fleet orbiting Hosnian Prime which was lost when Starkiller was used. Something that still pissed me off because I was expecting TLJ to cover a gigantic intergalactic war between 2 super powers. Yes they lost a planetary system, so what? It's the Republic, they should've had hundreds if not thousands of planets. What about the weapon factories of Balmorra? The shipyards of Corellia? Nothing? Ugh....
The best depiction of a Republic vs Empire conflict in my opinion, is in the game The Old Republic, but it's a fight were force users are widely used (especially since the Rule of 2 didn't exist yet) so that would exclude it from this discussion.
