STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

Fall of the Republic or Republic at War? Which would you prefer
Hey all. I am looking to get back into Forces of Corruption and I noticed the new Fall of the Republic mod which I gotta say graphically looks really good. Now I am very familiar with its cousin Republic at War (RaW) having completed a few Republic playthroughs. Now that Fall of the Republic is out (if youve played both) which do you prefer? From the screenshots Ive seen FoR 'looks' quite prettier than RaW (visually again). I know RaW has much more development behind it, and boasts a pretty diverse array of land/space units for both the Clankers and the Clones. Whats the unit roster for Fall of the Republic like so far?

Fall of the Republic. More lore accurate, less arcade-ish than republic at war. More features and units as well. unit balance is better imo as well, every ship feels useful. It is in beta though, so expect bugs and unfinished features.

Like the previous person, Fall of the Republic. RAW seems like a mod that adds a few extra features and ships, but fall of the republic is a complete revamp.
FOTR is the most balanced clone wars mod right now, and is the only one in development.

Fall of the Republic has a much better galactic map, but the actual combat just feels terrible. The lack of shield penetration slows everything down considerably and makes bombers feel useless. It not having rotating turrets (allegedly for performance, despite it running about as bad as the remake mod) is annoying as well.

But really, I just want a Clone Wars mod that doesn't use the cringy 2008 cartoon.

I just finished my Fall of the Republic campaign:
The pros:
Great graphics
Awesome unit variety
Great era system instead of the regular tech tree of the normal game and most mods, really fits better with how the clone wars are supposed to go down
Massively increased scale of battles (also a con)
The cons:
It isn't quite finished yet. Performance on the galactic map tanks quickly as does the performance in space battles, especially late game. At some point you are looking at a slide show.
Late game is not well balanced, especially if you don't follow order 66

If you want my opinion between the two, I would say to go with republic at war.
here are my reasons:
1. bombers lose all of their usefullness in fall of the republic, as their torpedos don't go through shields, while they do in republic at war.
2. The battles in fall of the republic need modification... a lot of modification
3. the FOTR mod is not finished yet, so there are still bugs, glitches, and stuff that makes no sense
4. RAW mod has more and better ships and can really give you the feel of being a commander in the clone wars, I just did not get that feeling when playing FOTR
5. You asked about the unit roster, and that is another thing that FOTR struggles with. There are no clone regiments, and no speacialized units like arf troopers, although there are arcs.

Here are some good things about FOTR:
1. the way eras work is GREAT, I dont think any other mod has it as great is it is here.
2. you can build victory star destroyers in the game, falling in line with the lore.
3. there are more hero jedi than in any other mod.
4. the graphics are awesome.


Now, I am going to go a little off topic: if you are looking for a good clone wars era mod, then i would actually go with the clone wars mod (4.0). I find that it has the best gameplay compared to the other clone wars era mods. While it does not have an awesome tech tree or Ships that you would not expect, its also what makes it great. . If you want to recreate battles from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars, then this is the mod to do it. Want to invade umbara: go ahead. Want to recreate the battle with the Malevolence, do it. So, go ahead and try that out if you have not done it yet.

FOTW changes too much for my taste, I didn't want a total new game I just wanted Empire At War with a Clone Wars redesign, so I prefer RAW.

However, RAW suffers from really jank balance in many locations and is in DIRE need of reworks to AI and units.

It's unacceptable that there are so many unit types for say Republic space combat but the dev sanctioned strategy to combat the AI borderline cheating is to just spam the hell out of Venators. I get that it's a mod and they're working in their spare time but like come on, you shouldn't have to cheese just to win a standard battle.

Be Advised there is a Sub Mod that fixes the Shield Penetrations Issues of Fall of the Republic made by the modders, Bombers are Useful again.
