1. Use whatever units you happen to have on hand to hold off any initial attack.
2. Bring down some infantry, and build a sensor node.
3. Bring down artillery. Use your other units to defend it.
4. Slowly bombard the enemy forces into submission, building additional sensor nodes or advancing as appropriate.
This doesn't work in some rare cases (if there are no turret spots or if the enemy has a shield generator, for instance) but for the most part, it makes for a cost-effective win. It works for the Empire too, although with those brute force works better due to the AT-ATs. That being said, it's also a boring way to fight - a lot of fast-forwarding and waiting, so if you don't want to go through that kind of thing, the AAC hovertanks also make for good attack units.
