STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

My 2nd Death Star just blew up randomly (Awakening of the Rebellion 2.7)
As the title says.

Pretty much, my 2nd Death star just randomly blew up completely randomly. Was preparing to invade Hoth and was assembling my units accompanying Darth Vader for the assault on Hoth and the next thing i knew i heard a loud explosion and i scrolled over to Endor and the ♥♥♥♥ing 2nd Death Star was gone along with my ground force on Endor, Grand Moff Jerjerrod and the dozen Star Destroyers i had in orbit protecting the Death Star. WTF

No enemy fleets flew towards Endor, no evidence of sabotage of any kind, nothing...

You can't be telling me that Luke or the Millenium Falcon can just fly in there completely solo and destroy the Death Star right under your nose, that would be overpowered as ♥♥♥♥. But then why would the planet be destroyed too if the Death Star only blew up???.

In vanilla FoC, IG-88 can destroy the Death Star at any time with enough credits. It's possible that is still the case on AotR.

i do know for a fact that IG-88 can do this from the Zann consortium. When i play the empire i pretty much do not use any fleets or anything surrounding the Death Star. I usually put the death star in a space combat only area and leave it there until i need it because it seems your opponents have a tougher time getting to it and you dont risk losing anything important. Another thing about the death star is that it can win any space combat with an auto resolve by default, which makes it really OP on top of being able to blow up planets. so being able to blow it up on a whim isnt so overpowered.

So the impression i'm getting from this is that IG-88 is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, yeah?.

But... why does the Death Star's explosion obliterate PLANETS in that case?. You don't see Endor being vaporized in the movie.

well the idea is that the game you play is an alternate timeline from the movie series. So when the death star explodes, the idea im guessing is that the Debris is so large that it falls to the planet and causes the planet to become uninhabitable because of the damage. From a gameplay standpoint though, im guessing the planet exploding is just to punish the player...kinda like the developers saying "see this is what happens when you use OP things" :P

I believe it's to do with some sort of Legands lore, where IG-88 takes over the station by plugging himself into the mainframe, I believe he destroy's a planet and then blows himself up

Either Petroglyph just thought it was cool, or it was the easiest way for them to get rid of fleets at that location.

Considering that they decided to make the unifinished 2nd Death Star be able to fly around the galaxy with a third of its structure incomplete, it could very well be the former.

iG-88 can destroy the death star whenver he wants, but for whatever reason he can't if the death star is in an asteroid field

in AOTR keep the death star at a intersection, preferably one it can be used as a blocker to more important planets, IG-88 can't use his ability unless it's over an actual planet and the rebels won't attack with rogue one, ever, at least in 2.6 these things might be different in 2.7 havent gotten through a campagin enough to access the death star

ig-88 and rogue squadron can both destroy the 2nd death star for 40000 credits. if you kepp it moving they can't do it.

Just keep the Death Star on the move. Never staying in one location for very long, to maximize this select destinations on the opposite sides of your control area.

AFAIK, keeping the Death Star parked on an asteroid field (or a blown up planet) accomplishes the exact same thing, without all the micro involved...

Its technically sabotage in that he uses the superlaser to blow up the planet, then self-destructs.

Well this mechanic is some supreme ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I didn't even get to use my Deathstar before it exploded.

Just another reason the Zann consortium sucks.

Either annihilate them first OR you can get a mod that gives you the original Empire at War maps with no Consortium presence at all BUT with all the new stuff for FoC. This of course includes cool stuff like the Executor and DS II.

I forget where to get said mod but I'm sure it's posted on this board somewhere.

I did however once keep my DS II around the Maw (no planet) and nothing happened to it.
