D3D9 Application Generic application error. Enable debug output for detailed information.
Screen blinks from black and white upon launch and game window opening. Message suddenly appears saying:

Generic application error. Enable debug output for detailed information.

Switching to the reference rasterizer, a software device that implements the entire Direct3D feature set, but runs very slowly.

Game then continues running VERY slowly, takes hours just to get to the main menu. I checked the PGCrashCollector and I found this:

I'm running Windows 10 and Nvidia 750 Ti drivers, everything is up to date. I've tried verifying the game files, uninstalling the game then reinstalling, searching every forum I can find, and nothing has worked for me. Help would be much appreciated!

Sorry to hear that.... I suggest you try Steam Support (click "Help" in the top lefthand area of this Steam page, and then when the menu opens, click on "Steam Support").

I've tried that, however it only says check the product website/forums. In which I didn't find anything

Ive tried redownloading and checking DirectX, but that hasnt helped. It says it is functioning as normal. I updated my Nivida driver recently, could that be a factor? Ive also tried starting them as an administratior and putting them into various compatablitily mods, but that hasnt helped

I am having the same problem. Any solutions yet? I'm new to Steam and retro gaming downloads. I've tried downloading the directx9.0c and that didn't help either. Would getting a hard copy help?

You have to run it in Windowed mode. It seems to be a resolution problem. I got mine working by having a friend mess around with some of the graphical options, and setting the resoultion, but it only works in windowed mode

I tried to understand the instructions for Windowed mode and I'm having troubles figuring it out. Any way you can dumb down how to access Windowed mode?

I just tested this and it does work, you have to go into the runme and runme 2 properties and go into the compatibility settings and check "Disable fullscreen opmizations"
Still never figured out how to do this whole process.

I had a similar problem with another game, find the "steamapps\common\Star Wars Empire at War\GameData" folder in wherever you have steam, go to properties on the "StarWarsG.exe."
Have it run in windows 8 compatibility mode and check "disable fullscreen optimisations."
Worked for me.

Right .. after all this time , for me all i had to do was put - windowed 1920 x 1080 in the set launch options bit and it worked fine for me , obviously you can set different resolutions here but my monitor is 1920 by 1080 so thats what i use.
