Any sort of fighter screening vessel and some of the more advanced fighters and interceptors are really your only options. I don't remember what ships the Republic has available to them in that era but you can try using Quasar Fire or Endurance carriers to tie them up with fighters or purchase E-Wings seperately. Corellian Corvettes are good choices as they're both inexpensive and only take up a single population point. Many frigates and light cruisers such as the Corona-class and Nebulon B also either sport anti-fighter weaponry or carry fighter squadrons that might help.
