What's the deal with the campaign?
I like this game, but the single player drives me crazy. I always end up exhausting the resources on each map trying to keep up with the crazy output of the AI.The enemy always ♥♥♥♥♥ out units endlessly and I run out of coal to finish the mission. Am I playing this game wrong? I've had no issues like this with other RTS games. The mission i'm stuck on is the archerfish level.

Hey, what part of the mission are you struggling with? Putting out the fire or taking down the base? And do you literally mean exhausting all of the resources, like every coal expansion? What creatures are you using? If it helps though, this mission is definitely one of the harder ones in the campaign, in my opinion, the next few are definitely easier, so you have that to look forward to.

You need long-ranged + regeneration animals, they are best defenders.

Stay away from artillery until you understand the game you need to put them on passive setting and manually target the enermy. Use 5 to 10 ranged animals for defence with regeneration if you can and a few high health units near the front to draw the enermy fire. Use Rex in front if you need to to soak the damage early on and heal him by putting him into the lab.

This game needs a few units to play tank for tech level 3+ early on in the campaign have at least 100 health on the frontline unit and regeneration. Getting an armor rating of 40 or higher helps a lot and it is very important to upgrade the health as well as armor for melee creatures. Ranged attacks on every unit is a very bad idea as the AI prefers to attack at a range.

Use a lobster cross breed to destroy defences

I usually use animals that have regeneration perks so u will cut a lot of cost with that.
melee - lobster cross breed
range - chameleon cross breed
good luck

Thanks for the tips, it was the taking out the base part that bested me. All the coal on the map was exhausted so I couldnt make any more units to get up the hill.

Same problem, try to destry the creatures chamber, this makes the IA lost a lot of time
Yeah lobster!

I'm currently stuck at Mish 4 because the game throws a polar bear/killer whale at me before I even get my base established, would this sort of tactic work for that or would it just take too long to get ready for the attack? Because as soon as you set up in Mish 4 you get attacked.

The AI will sometimes rush you for reloading in a mission you can get a sound beam tower and a few level 2 creatures to hold off most attacks at the start. When Rex gets his attack then use him on tough creatures in order to counter them. Also level 1 and 2 creatures die easily so don't go overboard in their creation get 3 to 5 of them to hold out until the third tech level. The workers can beat up creautres as a last resort.

Most bases need a power income of 10 in order to get everything you need so coal is used early on in order to get it. This in turn allows fast access to level 3 creatures usually within 3 to 4 minutes. With the campaign you need to wait until 3rd tech level before you can beat most enermies. Advanced buildings are not worth anything until the third tech level is reached anyway.

Try to gather as much coal as possible, have buildings set up and create as many ram-wolves as possible.

I'm not even getting the chance to. I enter the world, get the henchmen working on the coal, have Lucy build the creature chamber and then boom, I'm under attack. I'm not even getting a chance to have a defence let alone any coal supply.
Probably the most important thing agaist AI is to make sure your level 4-5 creatures have barrier destroy from lobster or scorpion . It will help agaist their buildings which in campaign they have a lot of .

You can use lobster or chameleon regeneration if you running out of coal to save more units .

Level 4-5 creatures are more cost efficient so try not to stack up entire game on small staff .

What exactly are you building? because if you are building sound towers then you are going to have a bad time.

EDIT: Also, you should use rex's dart gun to take down enemy creatures., and if you want to save coal, only upgrade to level 2 and use wolf-lion combo for leap and damage.

I'm building lightning rods, the generator, and a creature chamber, and hiring a couple more henchmen. I might try hitting the polar bear/killer whale with the neuro toxin darts. I'll check if I have the wolf/lion later too.

Only the later levels in the game are hard, and I'd reckon that experienced and versatile rts players would have a breeze through it.

If your talking about 6 (the volcano one) you gotta get some animals into the little pool that they are at, the archefish will start coming once you get the guy rebuilding his landing pad. after he is done keep your guys there for a few minutes and once they stop coming you can try to complete the mission. they come out in twos so they're easy to take out
