HOW TO PLAY ONLINE

ICO has since been brought out of beta and the steps below are no longer necessary. Have fun online!

BIG NEWS, FRIENDS!

As I'm sure we're all painfully aware, ICO has been insanely unreliable as of late, and we're having to play with ZeroTier almost every game session. Very frustrating! Very bad! No good!

Well, we've been in touch with our good friends over at THQ Nordic, and the good news is that they're currently in the process of migrating ICO to their new and flashy online service.

Want some even better news? You can play on it right now! All you have to do is opt into the public beta branch for IC on Steam. Right click IC in your Steam library, and select properties. From there, click on the "betas" category on the left-hand side menu. Select public beta - Community Public Testing and close the window. Steam should download a small update for IC and you should see [publicbeta] affixed to the end of the game in your library.

All you have to do next is launch the game and create a new ICO account. Note that your email address WILL be used to verify your account, so you need to use a real one this time!

This iteration of ICO is still in beta testing, so expect a few bugs. Report any issues you're having in the #ico-bugs channel and we'll forward them to Nordic. Thanks for understanding!

So...i have a problem...I created my account. I got the message saying that it was created, and to refer to my email to click the link. I was never sent an email. i retried it twice, and one more time using a different email. i never got a response to activate my account.

It's good to know that the game isn't just abandoned, but I think it would be GREAT if the game used the Steamworks implementation for the online features.

The reason that I'm suggesting this is just because there is multiple games that doesn't have online features anymore because the servers just shut down, I believe that one day this new server will be shut down aswell and the same problem with the online features will happen

It now uses the same service as THQ Nordic's other IPs so that's unlikely to be any time remotely soon.

Consider joining our Discord server at https://discord.io/playic

You won't be likely to find a game by just logging on randomly, but if you ask in the server, you'll be much more likely to get a match. :)

Well it keeps saying "no server response" or something to that effect. We created new accounts and profiles once we started the public beta as instructed. What else can we do to fix this if at all possible? Thanks in advance for your help!

Can neither of you join each other? Do you both have UDP port 23022 open? IC isn't being blocked by your firewall?

It's also no longer necessary to use the public beta. Try switching off of rhe beta branch and see if that makes a difference. Use the same accounts you were using on the beta.
